Battlefield 1942 Question

Couple of questions.

1. Do you guys use Gamespy to play Battlefield 1942, in game multi-player or something else? If so, what do you recommend?

2. What are the best MODS for BF1942? Thanks.

I just use the built in game finder. Is there something better? How could it be better?

My brother and Dad just got secret weapons. I played yesterday a bit, it was goood. I only have the canned mods/maps. I'd like to get more but can never find them. Don't look to hard for them but I'm interested too.

1. GameSpy Arcade here, it works pretty good.

2. Don't play any MODs but I hear that one Desert one is good.

best mod: download desert combat. search for it here for a link. 500+ meg download though.d

might want the expansions as well.. lots of severs use them now.

Trying using "All-Seeing-Eye". Google it and you'll find it. Good stuff. Any better then this?

It's the game I had the idea for years ago. But lacked the programming knowledge to do anything about it. My vision was much more detailed. Like if you chose to be a pilot you would pretty much only fly a plane unless shot down. Games would last days or hours not minutes. Anyway, I think it's the best out there if played correctly. You can't play it like doom or quake you have to stick together. Once you loose the teamwork you will loose the battle.

1. All-Seeing-Eye is the best server browser IMO.

2. Desert Combat is very fun and one of the more "polished" mods. They've put a lot of time into it.

That new patch sucks. Now for each map type (BF42, RtR or SW) you need to insert the disk for it. Before you could just use the one disk, Road to Road and I was fine. I play it on a laptop so I don't have the disk space to go and create images of each of the disks, it's a real pain.

Take 10 seconds to install the no cd patch and don't worry about it.

ASE is the best game-finder. All kinds of sorting ability (ping, FF on/off, maps, number of players, etc.), can save favorite servers, works for just about every multiplayer game out there.

You only have to swap for SW. BF1942 and RTR still work the same as they always have.

The All-Seeing Eye is far better than the in-game browser. Much easier to search for servers your friends may be playing on. A buddy list (only up to 4 people unless you register the program for $10). It has a lot of benefits and I have been using the program since about am onth after I got the game which was last christmas.

The All-Seeing Eye is the best game server browser.
It supports pretty much every game out there including BF 1942 and all the associated mods.
You can easily specify all kinds of filters. Ping, number of players, map, friendly-fire, dedicated servers only, etc., etc.
The buddy list is great because you can quickly see if any of your friends are online.
After using ASE for about 2 years, I finally decided to spend the 10 bucks and register it for a year. Mainly so I could have an unlimited number of people on my buddy list. And to show some support to the developers.

Definitely get Desert Combat.
It is the most complete and highly polished mod. You can't beat flying F16's and Apaches.
Almost as many people playing DC as there are playing the original BF 1942.loo

If you are interested in a Vietnam theme, Eve of Destruction is worth getting.

I'm also looking forward to the Forgotten Hope mod. It's supposed to be out in like a week.
It retains the WW2 theme, but adds something like 15 new maps along with tons and tons of new and newly reskinned vehicles. It looks to me like an expansion pack, but much more extensive than any of the official expansions.

Yes, BF is that good.
The reason it was such a huge hit is that it combined all the things people liked about fps games like MOH and Wolfenstein with the freedom to drive battleships, destroyers, aircraft carriers, submarines, tanks, APC's, jeeps, mobile artillery, fighter planes, light bombers, heavy bombers. Plus the variety of different classes. Medics that could heal teammates. Engineers that could repair vehicles and lay landmines and explosive packs. Scouts that could call for artillery and use binoculars to give the artillery operator a camera view of the target.
So for me, it was as good as MOH but so much more fun and entertaining. Adding planes and other vehicles just gives the fps so much more variety and adds all kinds of possibilities for strategic play. Plus the conquest mode was really good and much more fun than a simple deathmatch.

EDIT: Oh, and I go by "Nerdboy" if anyone wants to look me up and take a shot at me. I'm pretty good in a Mustang or BF-109.
