I was able to run the game with out crashing my system before my upgrade. Now it crashes about 10 sec after I start playing...

Old System
AMD 2500+ Barton ========> AMD 64 3700+ "San Diego" core
Asus A78nx deluxe ========> Asus A8V deluxe motherboard
1 gb (2 x 512mb) PC2700 =====> 1 gb (2 x 512 mb) PC3200
ATI 9800 Pro Saphire ========> same vid card
2 x 120 gb seagate hard drives ===> same hard drives

I've already tried various catalyst drivers for my video card (5.5, 5.1, 5.6, etc)

Not sure what else could be causing this!?!?!

It does that on me too, I found that by disabling MY Virus Scanner, FRAPS (Frame Rate Utility), and mozilla it does not happen at all.

Did anyone was able to configure joystick or gamepad with the demo to control airplains better. I know that joysticks that use gameport instead of usb are not supported. The demo doesnt seems to like my logitech wingman gamepad either though.

So, I've searched, and short of going through every bf2 thread post by post, any at'ers have a good mirror of it up? I'd like to try it out tonight.

Battlefield Vietnam would work by default with my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. Go in to the controls menu select the funtion you want to change and click on the second (Blank, usualy) button assignment, Click on it, Then Move the direction pad down (UP, Left, Right, ETC) and the D-PAD or J-Stick should be recognised by the game to control that function.(this is how I did it in Vietnam) I am going to try it later on BF2 Demo. I will let you know how it turns out, I don't use the J-Stick much since I am an aerial maverick with the mouse.

You left out the most important of all pieces of information, what operating system are you using? This is probably where your problem lies and not in the hardware.

I configured a Logitech Wingman Extreme just fine on BF2. You should not have any problems setting up your game pad. Just remember to apply your settings(save) before you move on to another tab. Also you have different tabs for aircraft and helicopter unlike DC where aircraft meant all aircraft including choppers.

Thanks,
I forgot to connect the gamepad before starting the game. Its still hard to keep the helicopter level, like they want to roll left or right all the time.

QUESTION:

I have a ATI AIW 9800 and whatever video settings I use...there are messed up things on the screen. A lot of stuff is black and its totally whack. Should I be using AA at all? Whats a good resolution that Id be able to run? (highest is 1600x1200....for some reason i dont have 1280x1024 option...only 1280x960...wth??) I dont want the game to look like a$$ with low settings...my friend showed it to me on his 9600XT and it looked amazing...my card is better than his so I should at LEAST be able to make it look like his! Any ideas?

Uh, this is about the demo right?

Fortunately, BF2 demo runs fine on my system (I have listed the specs on systems). I do have a few questions though:

1.) How the hell do you command?

2.) Is there any way to play the big Oman map (the one with the aircraft and helicopters) on LAN w/ Bots? Im sorta having a mini-LAN tonight, and there simply wont be enough ppl to enjoy the map to its fullest extent. I've checked the standalone server options, but there doesnt seem to be an option for bots.

3.) The highest resolution on mine seems to be 1280x768. My LCD's native resolution is 1280x1024. What gives? The game looks mediocre even with everything turned up if I play it outside of the native resolution.

Any help would be great. When is this supposed to come out?

1. Check out this thread, a guy explains it fairly well - http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=33&threadid=1613841&enterthread=y

2. Not sure, but I don't think so.

3. I play it at 128x1024 on my CRT monitor and it looks great.

Mine only goes up to 1280x960. Did you do anything special to get 1280x1024?

I don't have any Q's but sometimes on online games, people ask the most idiotic questions. One that comes to mind now is; "How do I activate the scope on the sniper rifle". I mean c'mon! Right mouse button!

Do you have a utility that allows setting of the 'dead space' My Logitech joystick has a setting for this, and I increased the 'dead zone' to 20-25% in all directions.

Also you can try the directx joystick setup utility to calibrate before running BF2.

Ends up my roomate found out if you add "+szx 1280 +szy 1024" to your shortcut, it will allow it to play at 1280x1024. So, yes, "I" did have to do something special, I just did not realize I had.

Forcing 1024 will stretch the image -horizontally on a 4:3 CRT and vertically on a 5:4 LCD. Just make sure the monitor is correctly installed with the manufacturer's INF and no refresh force type programs are installed and the game should offer 1280x960 at the refresh rates the monitor is capable of. ATI drivers seems to include that resolution by default while NVIDIA may not, however they do offer a tab to add resolutions (perhaps after enabling via registry?).

Gameports may be denied technical support but in my experience they work so are preferred over USB. When configuring a controller pay particular attention to which box you are clicking in and the direction to push the stick for the desired axis orientation, since the game does not show +/-.

Windows XP-all startup/unneeded programs/service turned off
GForce 6600 GT
3.2ghz A64 on DFI Lanparty Nforce 3 mobo
1 Gig of Ram

Trying to simply run BF2 at 1024X768 at medium or better settings and the framerate just falls into the toilet. Becomes totally unplayable frequently especially in close up firefights.

I've left the firewall running, but no way it's hogging system resources to this degree. have I forgotten some critical video card/game tweak?

I wonder why 1280x1024 is not an option on my BF2. It looks great now, but I know it'll look better if I actually run it at the native resolution.

Any word on bots over LAN? I know they had this feature in BF:V; I know I played it like that before. Perhaps this was intentionally left out of the demo.

It works as Described in Battlefield 2, the game natively supports joysticks and all other control devices.

Modify your desktop\start menu shortcut

"Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

I can't tell you whether or not that will be distorted though.

I'm still awaiting word on bots on LAN.
