Any word on bots over LAN? I know they had this feature in BF:V; I know I played it like that before. Perhaps this was intentionally left out of the demo.

Modify your desktop\start menu shortcut

"Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

I can't tell you whether or not that will be distorted though.

I'm still awaiting word on bots on LAN.

I don't know anything about the resolution Issue, you will need to complain to EA to get that fixed.

I do know that there are bots in the game and they are darn good, almost too good. They are not dumb like the (G(0)(0)(K)S) of Vietnam. Just play a single player match and you will see what I mean.

Also if you want to play against bots why not play single player, going online to play against Bots (the computer) defeats the whole purpose of multiplayer online gaming. I never like server bots and could never really understand their purpose.

I realize that, but we are having a LAN with 4 ppl (with 3 apparently working computers); we want to play a map without just 3 players. Hence bots.

I have a Q. My CPU utilization is at a constant 100% PF is at 20% My rig is XP2200+, 1gig PC2700, 5900TX, XP Pro. Is it normal for CPU to run wide open with this game?

Anybody mastered the process of making recorded demos and playing them back? I've been able to make a recording of a the single player map, using the console commands outlined in the BF2 Tweak Guide, and I was able to play it back by moving it to the folder, specified in the Readme.txt file, that makes it available under the "Community" tab in the game.

But, I coudn't find a way to get them to playback in a first person perspective. They always have 3rd person camera view, though it is fully movable. If anyone know how to get a first person view in a demo, I'd appreciate the tip.

I also seemed to run into trouble playing these demos back after I started making changes to my video and audio options. (I was trying to use them for a kind of benchmarking process.) They worked fine for a while, but after a few playbacks and messing with the options, when I would try to launch them, they would dump me back to the desktop at the point where the loading process said it was verifying client data. I could launch an actual game with these settings, but not the demo. And once this point had been reached, it seemed like changing the settings back made no difference, I no longer could luanch the demo with that profile. I'm kind of stumped by that part.

I haven't seen if recording a new demo with the new settings will let me playback a demo again, or if I have to keep creating new profiles to make a demo playable again.

Yes. All D3D games will do this.

I've got a similar rig to the guy above that can't get a good framerate, and I'm having the same problem BIG time.

I have an A64 2800+, 1 Gig PC2700 RAM, PNY 6600GT, 120 GB HD, on a Chaintech VNF3-250 mobo.

I can only play at 800 x 600 with settings on MEDIUM with dynamic light and some other settings turned OFF COMPLETELY.

This is NOT what the game review sites have been promoting, and will probably cause me to not buy the game...

I honestly hope alot of you out there don't accidentally waste $50 by buying a game you won't be able to run well at all. At the lower settings, it looks just like BF1942, which was never that great in the grapics dept.

What are your audio settings and what sound card are you using? I saw in another thread a comment that trying to run the hardware option on many cards and onboard sound solutions will significantly affect framerates.

That's the fault of server operators failing to open certain necessary ports. Let's hope EA is more vigilant in delisting them.

I can't get my mic to work with this. My soundcard is an M-Audio Delta66/OmniStudio. I tried using a couple of mics on both pre-amps and BF2 doesn't pick up any signal. Although, in UT2K4 it works fine. Anyone with any suggestions?

EDIT:
------
Nevermind its working.

Get a joystick. You can't beat flying with a joystick, it's just intuitive for me. Make sure to get one with a twist control, makes steering much easier. Walm-mart has Saitek joystick with twist for $20.00

I've found that changing the default controls for this game can be a royal pia, since many of the keys are already bound by the game, but these bindings don't show up in the control options, where you can disable them.

You might start by taking a quick peek at TweakGuides' TweakGuides' BF2 Guide, page 2. They note that the control configuration file that you want to edit is found in this directory, \Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2 Demo\Profiles\ . They go on to say,
. . . the settings for each profile listed under a numbered directory (e.g. \0001 for the first profile, etc.). You should stick to editing the files for your specific profile, as messing with those under the \Default directory will affect all profiles. To see which particular profile is currently in use, open the Global.con file under the \Profiles parent directory first, then see which number it mentions, and go to that particular numbered directory to find the files mentioned below.

I found that I had to REM out some lines in order to free up keys that I wanted to use. Also, for some reason, the helicopter controls wouldn't let me use the 0-axis of my joystick, telling me it was already in use. I couldn't find any other use of this binding in the configuration file, except what I had created under the aircraft section; so, I ended up cutting and pasting the aircraft binding for this into the helicopter section to get it to work.

Hopefully, I haven't broken anything important in the process of this control configuration file hacking. Time will tell.

I realized that you didn't say exactly what sort of help you were needing; so, I hope these comments are at least aimed in the right direction.

Ok another question, I am going to make myself look like a stupid n00b but thats ok...
How the heck do you give commands and speak to other teammates without a mic, like in BF1942?

Well, if you are side commander, press caps lock (default) to issue general orders. If you are squad commander, press T for a menu of commands. If you are in a squad, press T will allow you to request things from your commander.

In order to talk off-mic, press J or H or K (IDK) for team and all say.

I got those parts down, but what about the voice emotes for things like "enemy armor spotted" and the like.

Press Q, and, when highlighting the middle "Spotted" option, right click mouse to bring up menu. Options on that menu range from Tank (if you press it you get "Enemy armor spotted" or something like that) to Helicopter to APC, etc.

If the crosshairs are placed over the enemy unit then simply clicking spotted will automatically make the call in context.
