keeps saying database error....that because somethings bust at their end? or theyre getting ready to upgrade to the full game?

I've been getting the same error for the past hour or two. It's probaly just something wrong on their end.

I don't like how we have to log on to even play the single player with bots.

Ok, this is going to sound really stupid because I already know the answere must be painfully simple, whatever it is.

Whenever I join an online server it autokicks me after about 5 sec and say I have "inadequete O/S privialges". I have no idea what that means and even less of an idea how to fix it. I'm about to just return the game if I can't play online.

A few questions:
How do I pick up items? Med kit, extra ammo, etc.
Similarly, is walking by a supply crate enough to replenish ammo, grenades, etc?
MEDIC: can I heal people driving/riding in an APC who are inside the APC or standing outside?
How do I blow up the C-4 once I place them?

I"m having a problem with one of my comps at home playing the DEMO. I used to be able to use both comps, but lately, one won't let me play online. Plays singleplayer just fine, but whenever I try and jump into a Multiplayer game, it jumps back to the server screen.

However, if a server is full, I will get the server full message box. And I did create another player account on the comp, but have the same problems.

I have tried removing and re-installingthe game to no avail. My internet works fine and so does any other on-line game.

A: Just walk over it, if you need it, you'll pick it up.

Similarly, is walking by a supply crate enough to replenish ammo, grenades, etc?

A: Stand by the crate to slowly get ammo/health.

MEDIC: can I heal people driving/riding in an APC who are inside the APC or standing outside?

A: A medic who is inside a vehicle will heal occupants of the vehicle and heal people who are standing near the vehicle.

How do I blow up the C-4 once I place them?

A: right click to bring up the detonator, then left click to detonate.

Is there any way to play any of the flying maps in single player mode or something? I didn't see where any of the single player enabled maps have jets you can fly. I would really like to practice up on getting familiar with the aircraft before I jump in an online server and get told things like, "If you can't fly, DON'T you fvcking NOOb!"

Yeah that'd work I guess but I also read somewhere before that there are no computer AI enemies in BF2 unless you are playing single player mode. Is that right? Starting my own multiplayer game would work but without bots to shoot at I'm just flying around by myself shooting at stationary targets on the ground. Not very good for practice. I can't believe they didn't think of that.

What was (and still is) a bit confusing to me is that there doesn't seem to be any documentation in the manual as far as a legend goes for all the different icons you see popping up on your mini radar map. I am starting to get them by just using my powers of observation but I am not comfortable yet that I am confident I understand all the icons. . .Like how I know what my orders are if I'm in a squad. . .I think it has something to do with a little green dot on the radar with a number on it or something but I don't really know. Sometimes i see a little purple icon on there that I have no idea what it is. . .It makes getting your bearings and understanding what is happening on the battlefield a bit difficult. Like I said, I am learning but it could've been documented in the manual better if you ask me. The manual is severly lacking in general.

You are represented by the dot in the center of the mini map. The numbered circles represent the squad leaders. A circle with a 1 in it represents squad 1's squad leader, etc. This circle changes to a vehicle icon with a number sticking out the back when a squad leader gets in a vehicle.

Green and blue are friendly. Green represents someone in your squad, blue represents someone not in your squad but on your team. Red represents hostiles. Here's how to get red units to show up on the mini map. Place your cross hairs on an enemy unit, if you hold it long enough you'll get a red name to appear over the unit. Then press and hold the Q key, while holding the Q key, left click the mouse. This will "spot" an enemy unit, meaning it will show on everyone's mini map for a few seconds. Another way is to request a UAV from the commander. The UAV puts up a spinning radar like thing on the map which reveals the location of enemy units within it's radius. You should be able to learn the various icons that represent vehicles by spotting the vehicle and then checking the map.

When a squad leader issues orders to his squad, every squad member will then have a line drawn from their position to the location of the order. The order is represented by an icon. To see a list of the icons, play a single player game, click the squad tab and join one of the AI squads. After you're done spawning, the game will ask if you wish to become squad leader for the squad you joined, press page up to accept the role of squad leader. Now that you're a squad leader, you can press the caps lock key to bring up the map, right click on the map to see a list of orders and requests. The first 3 items, are requests that will be sent to the commander. You can request UAV, artillery or supply drop. The next group of items are squad orders. In the menu you will see the different orders and their corresponding icon (color will be different on the map).

The final set of icons on the map are the static assets. Bridges, friendly artillery, friendly UAV trailer and friendly radar scan. If they are grey, they are are ok, if they are yellow then they are down and need repair.

I think that covers all the icons on the map. Oh, one final thing, your mini map has a compass on the outer ring if you need it.

Single player operation clean sweep has planes you can fly.

Get a joystick.

Seriously. If you don't have one just stick to infantry/vehicles. Flying will only frustrate you and you'll never get decent at it.

Someone mentioned Walmart has sticks for $20. It doesn't take a GOOD joystick, anything usb will do.

How the heck do you give commands and speak to other teammates without a mic, like in BF1942?

Typed chat is accomplished with J,K and L I think for the All,team and squad channels.

Q will bring up a mouse driven quickchat... for the "spotted" option, try right clicking to give more detail.

You also have the T key for your secondary radio. This is for requesting supplies etc. It has more options if you are a squad leader.

If you are a commander you can also use the buttons in the lower left of the commander screen.

I keep getting a "There is a problem with your connection" message in-game. Does anyone know why? I was thinking it was my connection, because around 8-9pm, it's terrible, but this has been happening all morning.

It's bugging me, cause then I can't play.

EDIT: It's my connection. I just played for 3 hours. So, I guess I can only play in the middle of the night. :frown:

If I put in the -szx and -szy options to force 1280 by 1024 resolution, how do I get the settings to set to high also? When I went into the options menu on video it had 800x600 selected and then it went to that res when I put the settings on high.

Thanks in advance!

To repeat: Gameports may be denied technical support but in my experience they work so are preferred over USB.

Use custom settings, leave the resolution at 800x600, apply the changes to save, then quit and restart the game using your -szx -szy icon.
