Battlefield 2 new patch

is it just me or did the load time improve dramatically with this new patch
by the way...for those of you who's wondering....they did implement 12 * 10 resolution with this new patch also

i think it's just you - this is the thing i hate the most about playing BF2.

I have been avoiding this game because of the horror stories I have been hearing about patching.

Can you vouch is the horror just hype or is it really a problem? Besides FEAR is coming out soon so I might bypass BF2 all together.

They're completely different games, it isn't an either/or proposition.

If your rig can handle bf2, and you like team-based fps with mutliple classes and multiple vehicles, then you *want* to play bf2, even with the bugs.

Fear multiplay is "meh", and the game itself will only be a single player campaign experience for most of us.

I'm annoyed with several BF2 bugs, but I still love playing the game, it's amazing, and if it actually got all worked out, would be one of my favorite games of all time.


The new patch did not do much for load times for me... maybe slightly better, but not by much if anything. The load times were improved though with 2GB of RAM over 1GB

Is it the initial load, i.e, first start the game, or during map changing? It was always under 10 secs for me when changing maps. Initial load takes longer.

The game rules, the bugs are a pain in the arse, but what can I say? I'm hooked.

Had to upgrade to 2GB ram. I still have occasional stutters but overall the ram helped a ton.

For multiplayer, despite the problems, it's the best FPS class based game yet.

i had the texture on medium instead of high
it eliminated all the stutters
is there a huge difference between the texture on high and medium?
i don't quite notice it

check my rig below, I dropped all settings to lowest before the patch to speed up load times to give me an edge on getting a vehicle. problem is that data verification still takes almost as long as the load time. Load times would be fine if it weren't for the horrible data verifcation crap.

Been studying for an exam all day, looking foward to dling the new patch tomorrow and seeing if it helps me out any. BTW, DidlySquat, did you just do the rename the shortcut trick to get your resolution correct for your WS or was there more to it for you than that? I just got my 2 2005FPW's in the mail today but havent had the chance to play games on em yet.

no I haven't done that yet, I still use 1600x1200 resolution in this game (with black areas on the sides). My other games UT2004, SC:CT, and HL2 can all do 1920x1200 out of the box.

Thats the old scheme, the new points have you at staff sergeant at something like 4000 points (here are my stats) and 8000 puts you at gunnery sergeant.

By 4000 points you now have 4 unlocks as opposed to the 1 before, kinda nice and annoying at the same time
