I think what he's trying to to say is "man I suck at this game".

The last couple of patches (don't start about crap-coded games being rushed to market...yes it IS all about money.) have really improved the realism of this modern combat game.

The patch yesterday made the air vehicles much more balanced, and gone are the irritating days of the jackass that leaps into the air, goes prone mid flight...and fires her/his rifle simultaneously.

Dolphin divers and C4 lobbers...goodbye.

after this latest patch, the game turned to utter crap.

I'm happy that dolphin diving and C4 lobbing is gone, but the AA missiles, and missiles in general, the way they move and their accuracy is waaay too much. That's too bullshiet. I've killed so many other heli's and planes when I was pilotting after the patch; moreso than before, so why am I complaining?

It's become way to easy. It makes people who haven't flown a lot before shoot down people who spent a lot of time honing their skills.

They noobified the game now. so BS.

BF2 is great. Me an a few friends get on TS, make a squad, and have loads of fun. Even without them, I have tons of fun playing on a random server. Also, the rank system gives you something to play for, like leveling up in RPGs.

Honestly, I have never experienced actual teamwork in any of the Counterstrike games. Yes, they can be fun, but the fun definately does not come from teamwork. That is the whole reason i bought Battlefield 2.

You need to double your RAM, at least. 768 Mb just won't cut it...

I got a gig now (not that it's so much more ). But it's just kind of dumb to need that much RAM to run that game, it's not like it's so next-gen amazing or anything.

wow i thought this thread was dead

i think CS has a lot more emphasis on teamwork and stragety though (cuz you die so easily you can't instantly respawn)
but after playing BF2 again it does seems fun for a while but still seems to lack the ability to keep me amused

I've never teamed up with anyone because i can't have consistant game time but i still find it really fun when I have the time to play. There is certain satisfaction when you score more kills than deaths, when you save a few comrades as a medic, when you defend or score a flag for your team. It sucks when you are on a team full of noobs and the opposing team is well organized and experienced because you'll just keep losing and getting killed. In that case just join another server.

I bought the game played on and off for a couple days and sold it. Just didn't think I could get into it. I got into Desert Combat though but just couldn't with this one. I'll stick with CSS,UT2004,ect.

Can you play BF2 on a LAN co-op? With a patch or the expansion pack? I'm boycotting most games which do not allow for co-op play over a LAN. Especially FPS'.

Thanks,

Bud

Did they ever fix the ground to air balance in BF2? The anti-air guns sucked horribly the last time I tried to play (couple of months ago). I would shoot at a heli or jet until the gun had no more ammo and eventually they would just turn around and shoot me with no problems. It was pretty damn stupid and the main reason I avoid games with air combat. Air is usually way overpowered relative to ground.

BTW, does it still take forever to load the game? I remember the demo was great and then launch introduced some ridiculous load times.

I haven't loaded BF2 back up on my computer since the latest patch yet but the anti-air guns are now taking out jets and helos much more easily from what I understand. Jets and helos had their hit points lowered and AA guns had their power increased.

with the latest patch they changed the aa to be way too accurate, like missiles making 90-180 degree turns, like matrix stuff. aa is now nearly 100% accurate. snipers just got moved up in accuracy, too much. typical ea stuff, they never change stuff a little, it is either extremely inaccurate or 100% accuracy.

as far as load times, i don't have a problem. you can take out all the beginning movies and that saves a bit.

I'm referring to the between maps load times. Maybe that was fixed in a previous patch as well.

To be honest, shouldn't AA be pretty close to 100% accurate? Planes/Helis need to learn where not to fly. This is great news to me though. I'll definately reinstall this game tonight.

I think it's improved alot, and I do like the special forces add-on. I hated it for a long time, then started playing it again and found it really addictive, trying to play as a teammate, capping flags, protecting others. Fun stuff.

....with "bots" in the mix? Playing 2 on 2 (or even 1 on 1) is a lot of fun as long as there are bots to help out (or more like "get in the way" That's what makes BF1942 and BF Vietnam so MUCH FUN!

basically you start a single player game and then have all the ports forwarded to your computer, then other people can join in, but your machine is the server in addition to playing the game. the bots are pretty smart in bf2, too bad that didn't make it like 1942 where you could run a dedicated server with 50+ bots and 10-12 of your peeps.

again map load time for me is pretty low, but i am assuming that is because i run a 15k scsi hdd for my system/app/game hdd.

the aa missles now do things that defy physics, like i said, matrix style manuevers. way to easy for aa to rape, especially on maps like gulf of oman, if the enemy gets the three front spots then the game is over with a curtain between tanks and aa, the us just can't get in there 90% of the time with this situation.

you must suck at the game if you think the bots are pretty smart. the bots have some of the worst AI i have ever seen. even on the highest difficulty their moves are extremely predictable. they will lay down and shoot at you from like 300 yards away and never hit you.

the ai targets you for artillery every single time.

i guess i suck then

compared to other ai i think bf2's is better than most. personally i play online all the time, so seeing the bots act decent was a nice surprise.

I guess I need to do some homework and find out how to "forward the ports" to me PC. Does this also work with COD2?

Thanks,

Bud
