I don't know... I've played both and BF2142 is definately a lot more than just a re-skin or some spin-off... Well, Ok, it's a spin-off, but its still good. The gameplay is completely different, the graphics are awesume. I guess it just comes down to your personal preference...

So did they warn you when you opened your game that there was ad-ware or spy-ware or whatnot on the game?

The reason I am on that list is because I disliked all the problems BF2 gave me. It just wasn't worth my time. The bf2142 junk was just the icing on the cake. It is obvious EA just cares about their profits. I will just not be touching anything EA makes from this point on.

But if you guys have fun with it then kudos to you.

I hadn't played BF2 in probably 10 months so i reinstalled it last night and played a couple of rounds for grins. Trust me, there is no doubt that 2142 is what you should be spending your hard-earned cash on. The graphics and sound are at least twice as good in 2142 and the gameplay is really polished compared to BF2. Titan mode can get a little choppy when you're actually attacking/defending the Titan but it's still a blast. Conquest mode is the most fun for me simply because I like to run & gun. BF2 was a lot of fun and I have some great memories of it, but once you've played BF2142 for a while it's truly hard to revisit BF2 and get the same amount of enjoyment out of it.

People bash 2142 too much because there either very used to BF2 or just turned off by the ad-ware thing. To tell you the truth I own both games and have yet to come across more than one billboard that wasn't ingame ads (like join the eu forces). I rarely stare at the bill boards anyways.

Battlefield 2 is better if you enjoy more intense vehicle combat and a more agressive conquest mode. While B2142 excels better at slower pace conquest with more hardy infantry tactics. Titan mode however is a good substitute for the agressive Bf2 style conquest mode plus it lends to more diverse round by round gameplay. You first cap silos then must balance between keeping silos, defending your titan and attacking the enemy titan. It's hard not to find something your good at in titan mode.

I would personally get B2142 not because it is better but because it is more populated as of now.

I have about 450 hrs of BF2 play and have to say it is by far one of the best games I've EVER played. I mean up there with Mario 3 and Mega Man 2 (bows)

If your're not bothered by SPYWARE (I am) then go for the newer BF2142. BF2 for me...

BF2

BF2142 is OK. BF2 is just a must have for a multiplayer collection.

Both games can certainly be fun.... BF2142 doesn't feel like it's going to be a classic though.

Most LANs I attend though get more play out of BF1942 then either of the others

BF2142 is to BF2 what BFV was to BF1942 ... some improved visuals and fun vehicles. It's just not going to get the same traction BF1942 or BF2 did. (Yes I've got them all...)


For futuristic Battefield 1942 like action my favorite by far is still Star Wars: Battefront 2

After being initially scared off by the "spyware" rumors and then taking the time to get informed on the issue, I went ahead and bought 2142. I like it much better than BF2. The weapons are more accurate and powerful and the multiple unlock system makes for amazing choices. Also, aircraft are not so dominant, which was my real frustration with BF2.

woofmeister, what's the real deal with the spyware stuff? I just reinstalled iwndows and am a little afraid of reinstalling 2142 right now because i never knew about the privacy issue beforehand. What's the word?

I don't know why the hell people keep making a fuss over that "spyware" thing. Who really gives a damn. Just play the damn game and enjoy it. I know I will.

"beta-tested" BF2142 and hated it. Never actually bought BF2 but still play the demo from time-to-time and it can be fun, but there are certain aspects of it that really annoy me (long loading of levels, my inability to fly planes/choppers).

I have too much fun on other games to waste my time with either of these ones.

Get a joy stick if do not yet have one.
It can be much more fun flying chopper & jets in these games, more specifically BF2 because that's all I've been playing for: flying chopper & occasionally jet planes.

Maybe that is what I will use my BestBuy GC for. I have always wanted to fly the planes/choppers in this game, so if that will help then why not.

You can listen to rumors and conspiracy theorists or you can go to the source.

IGA's software uses the IP address for geotargeting of in-game ads (so that European ads are not shown to those in the U.S., for example). It also creates a unique user number that's generated locally, and is able to re-identify the gamer when he next appears online. In addition, IGA's in-game ad solution does capture the time of day that the user started to play each gaming session

In other words, 2142 is capturing the same information you are already broadcasting out to the Internet for all the World to see. Ooooh scary! Don't believe me? Go here.

BF2 is better because it has more mods available for it. Overall though both games suck and whoever said earlier that DC final for BF1942 was better was dead on.
