haha why dont people get their own dedicated servers instead of paying per slot?
my clan is paying 205 a month for a website which we use for http redirect, a dual 2.4ghz Xeon with 2 gb of ram and 2 80gb drives. After having a dedicated box i would never goto a shared server, gotta love the lag when other servers change maps. Plus its nice to be able to install anything that i want on the server.
Right now i have a 64 man BF2 server, a 40 man COD server, a 40 man COD:UO server, a 20 man CS:Source server, a COD match server and a Teamspeak for 205 a month, trying pricing that out by slot.

Why would someone want to pay for a dedicated box if they are only going to run one game server. I'd rather pay $25/month (or less) for a 12 person server/with ventrillo than $205 for a dedicated machine. Glad the dedicated box works for you and your clan. It would be an incredible waste of money for me to go that route especially considering the low pings and 0 lag we get.

i just like the freedom of not having to wait for a tech support guy to upload files, troubleshoot problems ect ect. with 30+ people in the clan playing a large selection of games, a dedicated box is the only way to go.
I guess i have some bad tastes in my mouth from past expirences. Every per slot server i have had has been nothing but headaches and problems.

I guess that's why they have choices. One works great for you and another does for me. Since my server was set up 3 months ago, I have not had to contact tech support even once. I can reset the server, upload files via ftp, etc. without VSK even being involved. They provide great server solutions for simple setups like mine.

They also rent the dedicated servers that you speak of. I have no experience with the service that they provide in that area however.

yeah the company we use has an awsome deal on his servers and has a lot of expirence with his game servers so i cant complain.

Back to the topic, jarvis (the guy that owns the company) is working on getting ranked servers with EA as we speak. Apparently however part of EA's requirements is that only the tech guys can have access to the server. Meaning i will loose all my abilites that i like so much if i decided to go ranked server, but on the upside i wont be paying a 320 a month for my 64 man server

Supposedly the bandwidth BF2 requires is insane. I'm pretty sure that's one of the reasons for the cost.

I didn't care much for BF1942 or DC either. Played them mostly cause my friends did. But BF2 is great...very immersive.

Isn't it true that the only way you can have rankings on a server is if you rent it? That way EA makes sure they get a cut and they keep the rankings secure so nobody can hack their ranking and become a super admiral or whatever the ultra-top-rank is.

I thought this was kind of sucky since supposedly there are some extra weapons that are only available to you as you gain a higher rank; not available on the non-ranked servers.

I also heard EA is way behind on releasing fixes to their buggy linux server code.

Man I didnt reliaze you had to pay so much money to have your own ranked server, I think I will stick to my free gaming going server to server.

EA is pretty on the ball on getting providers ranked or trusted status. The process takes a few weeks and then they are given access to the server codes.
So no you do not have to pay an insane amount to ea to get a trusted server, but you have to fine a provider thats not raping you in order to get it, i have seen some as high at 9 dollars a slot, thats a ton!

For the cheapest game servers I've found with the best connections, try out www.ribservers.com . They currently have a 16 man non-ranked server for only $47.27 a month. They are also waiting for EA approval for the ranked servers. For all other popular games, their prices are VERY hard to beat. My CS clan has been hosted with them for almost a year now.
