Battlefield 2142 demo on Friday, 10/6.....

i will probably d/l the demo just out of curiosity - but definately make a fresh image of my current hdd.

as far as this dx9 issue, is it a newer version than 9.0c? will it screw up bf2 or any other part of what my machine that is currently running pretty good?

to those that say quake wars will be out in 02/07, where did you find info about this? this is all i could find and it is not even listed on the "investor relations" portion of the site

the titan mode is kinda of cool. you have to capture missle silo points on the map which is just like conquest mode but you have to destroy the enemies titan ship. it takes a lot to destroy it but also you can use a pod to land on the enemy silo and destroy it from the inside but this is the enemies base so it's kinda difficult but at least it's something new. i actually like it better than standard conquest. the Walkers are awesome BTW but i forget wut they are called.

i noticed that too, i set my stuff to med-high @ 1280x960 with textures on medium and it only maxed out at 850MB used, including the machine that idles @ 250-260MB

not too impressed with the game, vehicles remind me of the ones from the movie aliens and star wars. won't be buying this one

I keep trying to like it, but it's just not a very good game. I think EA just wanted to get something out the door while BF2 was still hot, and thought most people will buy it without trying the demo. The only people I've heard rave about are the paid shills, everyone else seems to be pretty unimpressed.

if they would have put the time into fixing the issues with bf2 that they put into this and didn't introduce anything new except maybe a couple new maps i would have been much happier. i was a bit leary when some server companies were offering 50% discounts if you order your 2142 server now....kind of like how a movie that does a ton of advertising usually sux compared to the ones that don't do much advertising.

even with all the issues of bf2, i still give a b+ due to its unique gameplay

i will give them that they made the netcode more efficient though

Just wait until you get hit with an EMP and someone car jacks your walker.

No stats are kept, if that's what you mean. Same as the BF2 demo.

i would try that, except bf2142 is incompatible with my sound card (hercules gametheater XP):|

somehow my old sblive works, but the GTXP doesnt. screw that (and EA)!

busted out the GTXP because i desperately need the USB ports on its breakout box

Just downloaded and played for 1/2 hour. So far no bugs and no problems installing, which is definitely a first for me and EA games. But like many others I don't really like the feel of it. It's clunky and slow feeling. The fact that I have to unlock demo packs is moronic, as ground troops have even less of a chance against vehicles w/out them.

For you guys that don't like how it "feels" try this.. go into HUD options and disable 'camera shake'. This makes the movement exactly like BF2. I was getting disoriented running around and disabling this made it feel much better, much more situational awareness when running around. Just a thought.

Yes I have to agree.. there is such a thing as having too much unlockable...
I miss my medic class...
having to turn assault into a medic with an unlock doesnt seem to make much sence..

I like the game but unless the unlocks come very easy the average player is not gonna be able to do much...

hell been playing BF2 since launch day and still only a Corporal..

Yeah, it is a coding mess. It is amazing this comes out next week and people are actually going to buy it. Well, I can't really blame the people who are having no issues/having fun, but there are plenty of people who are having game breaking issues.

Lower your texture detail one notch or lower your lighting one notch, delete your cache folder, and relaunch. That should fix any internal errors the game is having. If you're still having errors after you've completely deleted your cache folder (in My Documents), then it's probably a computer or driver issue.

I can't play it for more than 10 minutes before I lose connection to the master server. If their servers can't handle the demo, how are they going to handle retail?

I gave it 2 solid hours just now (played beta as well) and I just can't get into it. 2 disconnects from the EA server was a pain too.
