I hooked up a second 6870 yesterday to run Crossfire, had to download the latest application profile, i think it's version 4, to not get this weird stuttering when I play multiplayer.

Everything on ultra with these eceptions:

shadows: high
Post AA: off (I think this is the biggest killer of FPS and I think it makes everything look blurry anyways)
AA: 4x
SSAO on

I get a constant 40-60FPS in Caspian Border

What drivers are you using? 11.9 or 11.10?

I had the game working fine (with 11.9) up until last night when I downloaded and installed 11.10 (and the latest application profiles). I was unable to get the game to even run last night with 11.10 (with or without CAP4), kept getting a DirectX error when trying to log into any MP server.

I cleaned out the new 11.10 drivers, and re-installed the 11.9 drivers. When I start the game, it loads but I get constant texture flickering and tearing (completely unplayable). However, if I go into the video options and simply hit "Apply Fullscreen resolution" without changing any of the options, the flickering and tearing dissipates. But, I'm left with constant stuttering (not unplayable, but incredibly annoying).

I've got a few more things to try tonight, including disabling CrossFire and/or Eyefinity.

I'm actually on 11.9, did not know 11.10 is out. Thanks for the heads up on issues with 11.10. I did run into random yellow/green bars of colors that flicker on the screen, but that is random that happen on rare occasions--I hear this is also a bug with the console versions as well, so I don't think it has anything to do with GPUs.

I also ran into a pretty interesting crash when I was messing with graphic settings. The game crashed and Catalyst Control Center gave me an error message "Crossfire stopped responding" or something like that.

It would be nice if we can try to draw some conclusions on what makes the biggest performance hits. My 5770 was not letting me play on auto-detect high without constantly dipping under 30 fps.

Definitely HSAO/HBAO, Post AA, and AA.

Which one is the one that blurs everything like when I hop over a fence? I can definitely do without that.

I'm running 6870 crossfire and everything is silky smooth with the AA options cranked down. However, on some maps I still get massive occasional frame rate drops (like, screen freezes for 1-2 seconds). Monitoring GPU usage while playing shows that when everything is working normally, both GPUs are pegged at 95%+ usage, but when these slowdowns occur usage dips down as low as 20%. Not sure if this is a GPU-related issue or not, but it's brutal to have everything freeze when you come around a corner right into an enemy. Anyone else seeing anything similar?

I had the stuttering issue when I started running Xfire, but it got fixed when I downloaded the Application Profile version 4 for 11.9. If it still persists, try turning down textures a notch and see if that helps.

I have to say that I am very impressed with the performance of the game--is it just me or does the game seem to run faster than BC2

I agree, in BC2 I had to turn down a few options to run at playable FPS, for this game I can almost keep everything on and the game looks wayyy better.

Ok, so here's my current build:

Current Build:
Intel Dual Core E8500
XFX nForce 780i 3-Way SLi Mobo
4GB Patriot Viper RAM
EVGA GTX 260 (Overclocked edition)
500gb Seagate Hard-Drive
Corsair 1000watt PSU
LIAN LI PC-65B Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower
22" Samsung LCD Monitor

As you can see, I currently have a GTX260 as my graphics card. Currently in Battlefield 3 (in Multiplayer, haven't played campaign yet) I can get away with, for the most part, medium settings. The only issue is that I'm obviously not getting the full graphic experience and also my load times in between matches is RIDICULOUSLY long (anywhere between 2-3 minutes of loading screen). I'm kind of short on cash, so my buddy is going to give me 2 GTX280's that I can SLi together on my current rig. My question is, how much of a difference should I expect to see or at least be able to change in the settings going from 1 GTX260 to 2 GTX280's?

I'm running it at 1680 x 1050 currently.

I ran across this today. Try it and see if it fixes that issue http://www.uiscommunity.co.uk/home/m/2472935/article/408963/page/2

BC2 was smooth. BF3 is laggy at some points/maps for me. Lot of spikes sometimes.

Anyone running a x6 1090t with a gtx570 perhaps or a comparable gpu?

Wanna match one up with a ASUS M4A89TD PRO motherboard .

Heard BF3 can sometimes max out quad cores till the point some wanna jump on 2600k processors and with this pos dual core being maxed out i am gonna jump on hexacore cause i don't wanna ever peg a processor like this again its been painful to game on...

Don't mind the heat of the 1090t as long as cpu usage is lower it will make me very comfortable coming from this piece of crap processor so if anyone has one hows the performance?

I'm on Ultra with system in sig and it runs like a dream, but I've also tried it with just one 6950 and most things on High and it also runs like a dream. And to be honest the game is gorgeous on High and don't really notice a huge difference between High and Ultra.

Anyway, just saying, if you want to play this game, and if you want it to look good (High), I think a single 6950 will get it done for you.
