Battlefield 4 - 9GB+ RAM usage

Answer...It's not.

The preload did come with two executables. One for 32 bit and one for 64 bit.

I wonder why they didn't decide to test the same resolution with multiple ram configs. Just because a program can use every drop of ram in the system doesn't mean it should be! It would be interesting to see the impact of ram quantity and performance of BF4. I guess we'll wait and see if this happens to be a requirement of the engine or an undocumented 'feature' causing the ram usage.

Well when I played the Beta (and that was unoptimized) I never used more than 2.5 GBs RAM and 2 GBs or VRAM.

I was contemplating weather to get 8 or 16 gigs, luckily I went with 16.

It was Bloatfield2 that made us upgrade from 1 to 2GB so its only fitting that BF4 will make use upgrade again.

it has both a 32 bit and 64 executable.
not sure why they even bothered with the 32 bit version. There are no 32 bit processors that meet the minimum requirements.

You sound excited because a game is showing that it's using more resources. I guess that's what the kiddies think is next gen these days? LOL. Ever hear of software causing system memory leaks? Doesn't sound like the game is finished yet, and will probably be patched up later. There's absolutely no need for games to utilize system memory like Battlefield 4 is, sounds like poor coding to me.

BTW I remember back in the day games coming out doing the same thing. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic did the same thing back in 2004, and would crash my system until they patched it. Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines did the same thing. Thief 3 did the same thing, etc. Trust me there's nothing to see here, funny how stagnant the pc gaming world has become where stupid things like this gets the kiddies all excited about stupid stuff like Ram usage, and Vram usage. LOL

Most builds now are 16GB to 32GB so any chance to actually use all the memory and people are giddy.

But I seriously doubt this game is using that much memory on its own.

In the beta, I never noticed it using more than around 2.2 gigs, and that was using Ultra settings.

Hmm. The game used 5.5gb for me.

They did not show what Scale they were using, they could easily inflate that memory usage if they turned the Resolution Scale to 200%, I mean my 670 with Low/Medium Settings and 120% Scale wasn't using more then 1.8Gb of VRam and 2.Something(...can't recall)Gb of Ram, I do want to test my ram now tho since I OCed my ram from 1600 to 2133 after the this week, since people have been testing and ram speed can gain anything from 10-30% FPS so I'm curious.
