Madden and NHL have been recycled games for nearly two decades with a couple refreshes here and there. Dice has been with EA for over a decade and is the least "forced" studio they have. Most of BF4 issues are DICE related and not EA and had more to do with DICE wanting to redo BF3 with the new Frostbite engine (FB3) they developed for EA to use on anything. EA may have pressured them to get it to the NG launch, but DICE pretty much had to with the work they were doing with AMD. Bioware hasn't been dissolved infact its one of the head studios. Mythic just got dissolved for failures with the WHO release that was 90% finished when EA bought them and the DK release which also sucked. It's been 15 years since DAOC and they really hadn't doing anything of note.
Half the staff that has been with Bioware for about a decade are now gone, including the two main guys "the doctors".

I think the CS comparison is simply made because "cops and robbers" translates roughly to "counterterrorists and terrorists" and the setting more suited to "small teambased gameplay" rather than "large scale war". In terms of the actual gunplay, CS and BF have not been very similar historically (hitscan vs bullet physics).

http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/06/03/leaked-battlefield-hardline-footage-has-choppers-and-police-bikes/

Some new footage just "leaked". It's clearly just BF4 reskinned. So get ready for all the same bugs, crappy gun/movement mechanics, clunky animations, and lackluster sounds. I was so hoping for BFBC3 to be the surprise unannounced game this year.

The only negative thing I would say about the new footage is that you would expect there to be hundreds to thousands of bystanders on the streets. It would be cool if cops got bonus points for dragging wounded civilians to safety or healing them, and maybe the criminals would get an increase in notoriety or in game bounty or something if they wounded/killed civilians.

Looks like it will be fun, but I dont understand them using the Battlefield brand. Sure its the same engine, but cops vs. robbers is a new direction and deserves its own name.

Yea that's one thing I don't get either. It looks interesting but it shouldn't be called battlefield.

First thought was COD:Ghosts, has the COD name but it isn't of the Black Ops or Warfare series then i see Battlefield:Hardline. Looks like it has some elements of BF but clearly isn't one.

Should be years better then Medal of Honor and a excellent addition to the BF line but surely a game on the backburner of the more popular BF4.

So? It's still running and the studio has been treated as well as DICE has. This is an issue that happens when any studio is purchased by even best of companies. Top guys get a lot of money, work on a couple releases, then lose focus and wonder if they could be better off doing something else.

Heck sometimes that doesn't even happen. When Westwood got purchased and the top guys quit almost immediately, which caused most of the other talent to leave. Basically leaving EA with an couple unfinished games, some IP and that's about it.

Here's a non-youtube mirror of the leaked "gameplay" video:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1y6yyv_battlefield-hardline-beta-gameplay_videogames

IMHO, this just confirms that DICE/EA is in full Call of Duty/Counterstrike rehash mode. As if BF4 didn't sour me enough, this game looks so painfully generic and uninteresting that my desire to buy anymore Battlefield games has completely gone out the window.

Again it's not DICE. It's Visceral. Considered a AAA studio. Not like Activation basically putting iOS game companies in charge of one of the titles. So yeah EA probably wants to be able to have an Annual option for BF. I mean they practically invented Annual Franchises. But Visceral doing a true SP game with DICE helping with the MP modes a bit has me very interested. Dead Space wasn't perfect but I would consider it one of my favorite Franchises lately and I wouldn't mind seeing them take a more modern and less Sci-fi approach on a game.

And I don't know why you would bring up Counterstrike as a rehash. It's had a total of like 4 releases nearly 20 years.

Dice isn't doing MP, its all Visceral.

EA said something about Dice helping them with general combat and MP and that Visceral was the lead team and responsible for all the SP. At least I thought I remembered reading that.

@ShadowgateKDA Visceral is leading the development of Hardline on both SP and MP, with collaboration from DICE.

I took this to mean DICE was working in more of a technical support capacity, since they are using frostbite and the BF net code, but maybe they have more input.

No M98, no sale. JK, it looks interesting enough. BF with a counterstrike flavor could be new and interesting.

Its the technical aspect of BF4 that is unfortunately broken. The single player game while rubbish works well enough as do all the weapons and such. But it was the netcode and the hit registration and things like explosion rocking of the screen that was broken in the game and needed fixing. Took pitchforks and complaints from a lot of pro gamers before they finally decided to actually do something about it. So if its that DICE that is consulting with Hardline on technical issues there is a problem, because DICE seems to have lost all its talent, presumably to the Frostbite engine development.

I was thinking of going to the e3 viewing next week at one of the cinemas where I live. They will be giving away beta codes for ps4.

If EA is hoping to tap into the competitive gaming market, this game won't do it. It will fail. EA is cursed with the banished-from-competitive-games spell...that is until they release Battlefield 2143, which would instantaneously nullify the spell.

This game won't be the best, nor the worst. A average game that will be enjoyable for a while but easily forgotten in a couple years. Filler game between BF4 and BF5. Possibly the new BC3 we won't get?
