Ok, from the screens, it doesn't appear nearly bushy enough...also, is there any reason to buy this over the Eve of Destruction mod which appears to be pretty much the same thing (But free)?

I dunno, it's just from everything I've seen, I was expecting alot more, particularly on the "jungle" side of things...

I picked it up yesterday -- love it. So many nice features added to it to increase teamwork including the ability to shoot your weapons in the shotgun seat in jeeps and in the passenger seats in the helicopters, etc. The helicopters are much easier to fly in this one as well. I also really like the grass cover. Its nice to be able to travel across a level without being a sitting duck for aircraft. I really liked the EoD mod for 1942, but the increased features in vietnam made it worth the $40 for me. It will be a long time before I go back to playing 1942. If you enjoy 1942, I would highly recommend vietnam.

cheers

Jadow, the music helps define the era the game took place in. I think it is definitely a plus since a lot of the music in the soundtrack is politically charged like the time period. When the opening movie clip starts and CCR starts playing Fortunate Son all I can picture is Robert Duvall in Apocolypse Now and his love for the smell of napalm in the morning. I do wish they did have single player missions like Call of Duty does as well as the whole muli player lan support. But you can't have everything in life I guess.

I was about to start a new thread but I saw this, so I'll post my review in here.

Grade I give itF-. And this coming from a huge BF1942/DC fan.

Game play is slow, load times are slow (like make-your-own-sandwhich-in-the-alotted-time slow). Online connections are bad with my 3mbit cable. New weapons, and vehicles/classes are weak.

Don't waste your time! If you bought the game and haven't put it in yet, dont bother. God, I want my 2 hrs of my life back trying to get a good gaming experience out of this game. ANY game other than this will be a better buy.

I suggest you stick with BF1942 and play one of their mods if you're looking for a whole new Battlefield experience.

2.1GHz P4 Northwood
Abit IS7
512MB PC3200 Corsair
Radeon 9500 128MB NP Latest Catalysts
80GB WDSE
Charter 3mbit cable internet connection.
19inch 1900FP LCD

The game cost me $22.50 at BB with PM to Fry's + in-store gamer's gift card $5 off $20 and BB rewards gift of $5.

Even if Best Buy were to pay me $10 to play this game for another hour I WOULD NOT!

I'm not as impressed as I expected to be either.

I have to turn graphic settings to low to get a smooth framerate. But my GF3 is getting old so I don't blame the game.
M60 is way overpowered and makes things very unbalanced.
Some irritating bugs are back like the old weapons switching bug that was in 1942.

However, for me, load times are just as fast if not faster than in 1942.
And my connections have been fine. Plenty of servers with pings between 50 and 100 with no lag.
I love some of the new weapons and the fact that each class has multiple kits to pick from.
I love some of the new vehicles. Particularly the Phantom with it's napalm. I like the new tanks as well.

So for now, I would give it a C. I'm hoping the first patch will improve it to at least a B.

Caved in and picked it up today. I was more impressed than I expected to be...guess I had low expectations. Anyway, there's enough grass and vegetation around to make it feel like Vietnam, and that was a big concern of mine. Luckily, the atmosphere is spot on....especially the music in helicopters. However, I'd like to see more object oriented maps - more stuff like Monte Cassino from Road to Rome and such. I've noticed in this game, it's more willy nilly feeling. In BF1942, front lines tend to form at contention points - bridges, choke points in terrain, etc. In Vietnam though, it's sort of a free for all over all the landscape.

Anyway, the vehicles are cool - haven't done any piloting yet, so dont know about the choppers.
Connections have been fine...my list of gripes is shorter than good things, so here it is:

1) The server browser doesn't sort by ping. Fix please.
2) The Anti Tank American kits. M60/LAW or M79? Jesus.
3) Foliage is drawn as you approach so if you're hiding on a hill, you're clearly seen by someone more than 200 feet away. Sniper heaven I guess.

A quick performance tip - I was having FPS issues too, and when I turned off lightmaps, everything ran much smoother. Feedback welcome.

Anyway, I grade it a B- right now, but with patching that could easily make it up to a A-

Uh, you can't do that. I dunno if anyone noticed, but grass is culled at distance, so a chopper way up there in the sky sees you plastered on open terrain, just like in BF192...

I've been posting this all around.

TURN OFF LIGHTMAPS

There ... now it's more readable.

Regarding the maps, I miss a Closefire-type map (from EOD) .... very close combat, thick jungle, no way around the enemy.

Is there a command to set the mouse sensitivity?
I find it to be terrible in the game, and it seems like the slider setting does little to fix this with my logitech mx700

You saw there are different mouse sliders in each of the options menus, Infantry, Air, Sea??? I also set the level high in Windows. Works good for me.

I installed BFV last night on my laptop, it works great except I can't figure out the shovel.

Nope, I installed and started playing with no problems as well.

In regards to the lightmaps issue. For me, it wasn't just an fps issue. If I had lightmaps turned on, I couldn't play at all because I would get what looked like huge colored triangles that took up nearly the entire screen and completely blocked my view.
But that was also before I updated graphics drivers. When I first started playing, everytime I got to the server screen, I got a warning that my graphics driver version was not supported. So I ended up updating with the latest dets from NVidia. Haven't messed with lightmaps since then, but I'm not turning anything on that might affect my FPS. I'm already running on low details at 800x600 to keep the fps up. GF3 by the way.

I've been playing BF Vietnam for a few days and I think it is cool. It runs perfect on my P4 2.53 1G ram Gigabyte 5950U GT. I have all the video options maxed out and I do like the graphical improvements over BF 42. I also installed it on another one of my computers which is a Barton 2500 with a Radeon 9700 Pro and at default video options it runs perfect. I havent tried maxing out the vid options yet because I heard people were having problems on their Radeons so I am just playing it safe for now.

I have a 9700 pro also, the game runs fine with me, a little slower than bf1942 but that would be expected

Someone might have mentioned this, but hit Q if you want to be able to spot the flags and your teammates easily.

I can't believe so many people are having problems. Then again, ATi has a long history of problems.

XP 2200+
1GB PC2700
128mb Ti 4200 OTES

Running game resolution at 1024X768 with all settings on High. No issues whatsoever.

Thanks I was wondering what key I was accidentally hitting in the heat of battle to bring up the super-imposed flags and team members.

I never played 1942, but I played BFV all day yesterday. I was disappointed that my Ti4400 was choking (w/ 3Ghz P4 768MB RAM). I had to set everything to low at 1024x7687 ans still get <30fps. Is it the card or the game?

It's got to be your card because I am running BFV on a P4 2.53 w/1G ram and a Gigabyte 5950U GT w/ 2xAA 8xAF at 1024x768 and all details maxed and it runs perfect.

Did you turn lightmaps off like everyone is saying?

I'm a big BF1942/DC fan, and I picked this up today.

It runs fine at 1024x768 with everything on max on my system, but it's freaking laaaaaag-tastic.

If I could fix this, I'd be happy.
