So, I just looked at my credit card statement, and there was a strange $25 charge for a car rental I had back in August. Long story short, after much waiting on the line, rental car reps told me it was for a FastTrak violation.

I thought and thought about it, and then I remembered: there were two of us in the car, so when we approached the bridge during commute time, I took the FastTrak/Carpool lane and just cruised through.

Now FastTrak has slapped the rental company with the charge, and they passed it down to me. The rep said I should be getting a letter in the mail from FastTrak since they passed all the info to them. With the speed this charge was processed, the letter may as well come in June next year.

The question is: how do I fight this crap? Never had to deal with this before.

Thanks.

I didn't have to pay the toll: carpoolers get free ride during commute hour. The lane was marked as carpool/FastTrak.

And, obviously, I shouldn't pay the fine either.

I guess, I will have to wait for the letter and see what it says.

Which bridge were you crossing?

This site says 3 people are required to be in the vehicle to cross toll-free for the Antioch, Benicia-Martinez, Carquinez, San Francisco-Oakland Bay bridge and the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.

2 people are required for Dumbarton and San Mateo-Hayward Bridges

Different bridges require different number of people for qualifying as a carpool? How lame

Which bridge?

I don't remember any of them having Fastrak and carpool in the same lanes.

(it's been a while since I've been over many of them, so things may have changed.)

USUALLY, Fastrak either has it's own lane(s) or are in the same lane with a toll collection booth. Carpool usually has its own lane(s)
