I'd buy a VP8 today if it had an HDMI port. Hopefully they add it to the next version.

Getting a real-windows tablet with student Office for $250 is an amazing deal but I want the option to connect to a monitor, and to use it as a HTPC with my TV that doesn't support wireless display.

Well to look at the context of what he said... the DV8P is faster at web browsing than the Surface Pro. And I chimed in commenting I have the same problem.

I've been testing this out more and it seems to only be with the Modern IE 11 browser (for me anyway). Modern IE 11 is very slow on my Surface Pro 1. But it works perfectly fine on the Dell Venue 8 Pro. Desktop IE 11 and Chrome both work fine on the Surface Pro. Something is wonky with Modern IE 11 on my Surface Pro, giving the impression it's slower than the DV8P.

But yeah, obviously the SP1 with a Core i5 and 4GB of RAM is otherwise a much faster tablet than the DV8P with Baytrial and 2GB of RAM.
Yeah, I did see that - not sure what you guys mean. I use the Modern IE11 browser too along with Chrome, and they both are snappy. They are both very quick, but Modern IE11 is more touch friendly/more responsive to pinch zoom, and kinetic scrolling.

I don't get the want for HDMI. It really isn't useful enough to justify the expense. Maybe in a higher end business model but for me it wouldn't be useful.

I'm still having significant problems with accidental double taps while web browsing. I tried adjusting touch settings for a faster and slower double tap but it still happens. It seems that the screen registers a touch from further away than MDT any touchscreen device I've used.

I agree it'd be AMAZING with an HDMI port. It'd be a HTPC that could become mobile at any time. That'd be very cool functionality to have.

Hulu (free version) for example won't run on my PS3, they want me to pay $8/month for Hulu Plus instead. Other sites have this free PC / paywall mobile and console split.

I have a Surface Pro 1 at work for testing touch support in our apps. I've borrowed it to try playing Hulu on my 50" Samsung and it worked great. The Metro version of IE had good playback quality and touch works well for pause / play.

And like I mentioned earlier, with HDMI (and a USB hub) you can turn this into a desktop replacement in a pinch. I don't own a laptop so that would be a selling point for me.

I've also noticed my Dell Venue 8 Pro loads websites faster than my Surface Pro 1. Not yet sure why that is, as it definitely should not be the case.

Yeah. the Dell Venue 8 Pro is very nice tablet. Love mine. Really hope Dell updates it with a 1200p display though and then it'd be perfect (and ditch the worthless digitizer).

Does the digitizer not work well? Honestly, digitizers are what turns a tablet into a tool from a toy, imho.

digitizer works very well. Extremely well. You could draw professional art on this thing imo

but I think it is part of why I am getting accidental doubletaps too

Did you install the Synaptics update for the digitizer?

I don't seem to have any issues with getting unwanted double taps, but I installed the update the same day I got the tablet.

Are you using the Dell stylus? I have seen a lot of heated discussion on the merits (or lack thereof) of that pen.

I'd consider one if they had a cellular version. Starting to feel that a WiFi only mobile device is useless in comparison.

I am happy to say that it appears that the windows 8.1 update solved the accidental zoom problem in IE. Tablet now works perfectly.

So I can't figure out how to take 5 mpxl photos. The default camera app in win 8 only takes 1080p photographs.

If anyone is interested, Walmart has the 32GB Venue 8 Pro for $199 right now. Pretty sweet price for new.

I'm still using a HP Elitepad with a clovertrail. Like it for the most part, but it is really slow for some things, opening office apps specifically.

Curious how much faster bay trail is for this.

is there a store nearby? (Office Depot, Microcenter, Frys, maybe best buy has it on demo?)

I've played with a Clover Trail tablet, own a Bay Trail Asus T100

Clover Trail has some noticeable delay. Bay Trail doesn't really (but if you already own a "netbook", wait a while until Cherry Trail comes out? Bay Trail deviecs would go on clearance at a great discount, while you have to option of getting something that will be a lot better too)

I've had my DV8P for 2 months now ($150!) and I love the ah heck. Granted, I have a PC that I game on and watch most of my videos through and a current-gen MBP in the living room (mostly bought it for travel), so the Dell mostly stays in the bedroom. But for books, magazines, comics, some TV shows and movies...it's been great.
