There is a second rebate right below the 1/25/03 one that is 2/08/03 expiration. (And a third that ended 2/1/03 as well).

Darn,

this is a pretty good price. But is the monitor a good one? Quality? Anyway the viewing angle seems like a top notch one. Maximum resolution looks decent. But what is the response time on this thing?
If its below 30ms then its a very good deal for someone who needs it.

But I will wait alittle longer for a insane deal to pop up.

Damn me, I am climatized to hot deals.

They should...although if they dont, just buy a new one and return it with your old receipt. A tad unethical, but I doubt you'll have to cause they should PM it.

This monitor was on sale a couple of weeks ago which prompted a lively discussion. Rather than regurgitating all the same c**p again, go to this thread for further enlightenment...Link

great deal except....

I really sick and tired of "rebate practice"....can't they just sell the LCD monitor for $299 and then Charge 40% restocking fee (for those who always buy and return?

Just had to add my own opinion review. I am not an expert on LCD's but I can relate what I thought of the monitor. To sum it up, I bought it in the morning, and returned it that same evening. My system is a 1gig AMD Athlon with an ATI All In Wonder 128 video card. At present I use a 19" CTX Ultra Screen CRT. With that said, I was going to replace the CRT with the Kogi 17" LCD from BB. I hooked up the Kogi, which was no problem, and noticed that the writing was terrible, since I am using XP I turned on the Clear Type option which helped, but was still not even close to what I had on my CRT. The resolution I had with the CRT was 1024 x 768 which provides me with a comfortable viewing distance from the screen. After going online to the Gvision Site, I found via the FAQ section that the resolution was too low, and that I would have to increase it to 1280 x 1024. Idid as instructed, and it did clear up the type, the downside was the fact that now I had to give up the comfortable viewing distance and sit a lot closer to the screen all the time. The biggest problem with this monitor is when you do any type of scrolling. By that I mean when you are using your browser and scroll the web page you are on, or when you drag your application to a different part of the screen. The writing gets all fuzzy and unreadable until you stop scrolling and it goes back to normal. I guess that is because of its response time being 40ms. I tried playing my DivX movies and with the CRT were great and with the LCD looked sad to say the least. They were showing a lot of defects in the background of the movie. I guess that it is the scrolling defect that caused me to bring it back. By the way, I also have a Compaq 15" LCD on another unit, with a very inexpensive video card with only 4 meg video memory, ( AMD K6 400, 64 meg that I use for burning CD-R's) and that monitor does not show any of the dragging problems of the Kogi. As a result, I am back to my 19" CRT until another day.

Take Care, and Once again, this is only My very limited opinion.

DayTrader, thanks for the comments. I was thinking about getting this but probably wouldn't have since I'm waiting on another Dell E171FP deal. Your comments sealed the decision not to get this monitor. Oh well, my hunt for a good 17" LCD under $350 continues.

I bought this 17" monitor two weeks ago when it was $279 after rebates. The text quality at 1024 x 768 was bad, and it got worse at 800 x 600. Took it back the next day to Best Buy. Bought a 15" Planar PL150M from Dell last weekend on sale for $264 with free shipping. Monitor is great, has one bad pixel. Dell is sending out a replacement via Air Borne Express.

every LCD thread would be less cluttered if people would just understand that LCDs are supposed to be set at their native resolution.

Amen. You are complaining because the panel doesn't perform to your expectation when it wasn't designed to optimize non-native resolution. If you want to run at 1024 X 768, get a 15" LCD panel or a standard CRT.

Also, don't bash it because it doesn't match the quality of a panel costing 25% to 50% more. That's the same as ripping an economy car because it doesn't handle like a luxury sports sedan. Have you ever heard of price points? If you want a panel with a true 20ns response, you can find it...but not at $300.

The only downside I can see on this deal is the steep rebate. But for the price, you can't touch this anywhere. The quality is more than adequate.

No - the taxes would be lower (municipalities love rebates) and the company would have to discount *every* one. Now, some some rebates get "lost" in the mail.

I sincerely apologize if my review was thought of in the sense of bashing the Hot Deal. My intention was to simply give my impressions of the unit. I have bought a number of items in the past, which I would not have, if someone had informed me of the the defects that I found out about later. I know it has been stated several times to the fact of its end all price, I personally look at the price before the rebate, and in this case, I am looking and comparing a $500 LCD Monitor. I have a collection of free AR software, and I do not expect it to function as freeware, but rather to be as good as its retail price dictates in comparison to other software. As a parting note, the qualified sales personal that I have encountered, as well as the charts given in the instruction manual have never stated the fact that only it given native resolution would result in acceptable clarity. This one piece of information alone, in my opinion, has made the entire thread well worth reading. I thank all who mention it.

Take Care

Link to Kogi FAQ
At the bottom of the page:
Q: I've connected the LCD to my computer, but the fonts and images look fuzzy. What do I do?
A: The resolution setting on your computer is set too low. To adjust this: 1. Open the Control Panel (located in the [Settings] file from the Start menu), 2. Double click on the [Display] icon, 3. Select the [Settings] tab. 4. Adjust the [Screen Area] setting by moving the indicator bar to the right. If you have a 12.1" LCD, you should set it to 800x600; if you have a 14.1" or 15" LCD, you should set it to 1024x768; if you have a 17" LCD, you should set it to 1280x1024. After selecting the appropriate screen area setting, 5. Click [Apply], 6. Click [OK] to save the settings.
