Yeah, but it's strange. I think they are trying to punish the devil customers by using different clearance prices in different regions making them run all over the place. Guess I'll check mine tomorrow.

Just bought one from Minnetonka MN Best Buy for 28.99. That had one more too. I actually already installed everything in less than an hour and it's actually pretty decent. It's real quiet and small.

I have one of these that I bought full-price from BB back in December ($89.99 or some such) because I urgently needed a decent ATX case in a pinch.

It's reasonably roomy but still small enough to sit on a desk. I wouldn't do any major overclocking with it but the stock fan is decent enough. And the Antec power supply is a bit on the small side but still good quality and a great throw-in!

My only small complaints are that the recesser reset button can be hard to press if you have big fingers. And I wish the case had audio ports but that's no great loss.

But this case was a super-easy build and Antec includes good documentation and plenty of misc. hardware so that just makes things easier. I love the clean lines and the quality construction, especially at this price.

I've built 60+ systems in the NSK 4400 and I think it's a very solid case. Not flashy but not ugly either. Maybe refined?

The PSU is not top of the line, but not your standard throw-away PSU that comes in a case. The systems I built in it were similar to this:

C2D E6320
400GB SATA HDD
2GB RRD2 667
Intel 775 board
7100GS video card

And the PSU was fine for that. those systems have been running for a year solid, some of them 24/7 and there hasn't been 1 failure. The PSU has 4 SATA drive power connectors, a 6-pin PCI-E connector and a 24-pin mobo connector.

Looks like a nice case, but dosen't it look just like the slk-1650b with a different front and a little bit better PSU?

If anyone around L.A. can't find one and wants mine, let me know. Otherwise it goes back this week. I'll give it to you for 30 bucks and a protein bar to cover the tax, just PM me and come pick it up.

Great little case for the money! I picked one up in Dekalb, IL (last one) for $45, I asked about the $28 price, he informed me pricing is set locally, but the clearance was national.

He proceeded to show me pricing throughout the region, and three nearby stores had the $28.99 price. He instructed me to go to one of those locations and get a price adjustment OR return and re-buy at their price! Very nice guy, and obviously familiar with these types of sites and ppl

Yes, the internal frame is virtually identical; the main difference is that the front LEDs and USB ports are attached to the frame instead of the bezel. Also, the NSK4400 has only one hard drive activity LED instead of three. It's an evolution of the original SLK1600 series, which originally had a 92mm/80mm rear fan mount and a less refined hard drive cage (no rubber grommets), but which was otherwise the same as the latest incarnations. Any of the bezels and exterior case panels can snap onto any of the frames.

However, I would quibble with your implication that the newer SU-380 power supply is only "a little bit better" than the older SmartPower 350. The SU-380 is a LOT better. It has a strong resemblance to the Seasonic Super Silencer and the new Seasonic S12 series, as you can see in the following review:

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article592-page1.html

As you know, the NSK4400 has been discontinued. It is being replaced by the NSK4480, which is almost identical except it has an EarthWatts EA-380 power supply.

The SLK1600/SLK1650/NSK4400/NSK4480 cases are much better than "cheap" cases and a couple steps above the typical "budget" case, and they are very solid. I bought several SLK1600/SLK1650s over the years for $9.99-24.99 after rebate, which I considered to be a great deal. I like the fact that they are "compact" ATX cases. They are more than 1" shorter in depth than most ATX cases, which accounts for most of the internal crowding. (The hard drive sticks out over the motherboard, and there's not a lot of room between the CD/DVD drive and the power supply.) There isn't really enough room for a long video card. But if you bundle and carefully route the power cables and drive cables, the air flow is just as good as it is in any other case that has a 120mm rear fan. (I use dozens of cable ties in every computer I assemble.) The Antec 3-speed 120mm case fans are very good.

I only have a couple of complaints. 1) The finish on the older SLK1600/SLK1650 exterior side and top panels could be easily scratched and they show a lot of fingerprints (I'm not too sure about the NSK4400, but it seems to be the same at first glance), and 2) removing and replacing the panels is a pain due to the way they're designed. Once assembled and screwed down tight, though, they are secure and they don't rattle.

My favorite case by Antec is the NSK6500/NSK6580, mainly because I like the internal layout. I bought a couple of NSK6500s at Fry's a couple of months ago for $69.99 plus tax (no rebate), and I reckon there will be even better deals in the future if Antec ever decides to offer rebates for the NSK6580. For that matter, Antec will probably offer rebates for the NSK4480 in a few months. So even if you missed out on the current deal, you might get an even better deal on an NSK4480 or NSK6580 in the near future. One thing is certain, Antec offers lots of rebates (the checks have always come through for me), and the deals are pretty good.

Thanks for the info and the link to the Pwr supply review Jiffer. It looks like the difference in the power supply is well worth the extra money over the slk-1650b.

nice review there jiffer, and welcome to Anandtech

anyway, I would also agree, in order to remove the side panels, you have to take off the tops (the case, not you ;p). it is a very silly design.

jiffer - Ya, I just built an NSK6580 and love the case. Oddly, I upgraded from this case (4400).

The 4400 is a pretty tight build if you "play" in your case much, but very well built IMO.
I might grab one if they are $29 here.

Thanks for posting this, OP! I picked up one of these for $45.99 last night, then on my lunch break today I went to another store and saw a shelf tag for $28. I didn't see any cases in stock, but I still managed to get a price match to the lower price.

Just went to my local BB in Mooresville NC to check on the 320GB drive for $39 or the 750GB, no luck on the drives but, since I was there I checked on this case. Last week I bought the only one on the shelf for $28.99.

There was another on the shelf so I bought it, again for $28.99. Good deal!

BTW I built the first one I bought last night, moved stuff from an old beige case. Very happy with the case. the design is a little different and works well. The top comes off with two thumb screws and once it is off, both sides slide up and off. Makes it easy to get at both sides of the case and since all the sides are off they are protected while you work on it. The case is smaller but a solid case with a good PSU that is efficient.

Thanks again OP

I also went to another location and managed to get them to PM to the 28.99 price. No fuss, no muss, the CSR smiled the while time.

Clearence price went up today to $48.99. It appears they had it on sale last week with $20 off.
