Hearing about this story and other similar troubling ones, like San Diego mosque before 9/11 or Germany's salafist mosques for example, quite well demonstrate how the West is still unaware of true Islamic ideology, hadn't learn a dime from 9/11 clear and alarming lessons, thus continue to deal with such incidents lightly, without any serious confrontation to the contemporary Islamic religious authorities, or theocracies - worldwide - about many troubling issues within Muslims doctrine.
Here, and reading about recent 'Omar al Khadr' settlement, while I'm strongly standing in every possible way against inciting public hatred against 'average Muslims' (especially for those in the West, where many have really embraced tolerance), I do believe that the West intellectuals/politicians should be made aware of some Islamic principles/ideologies, which are even shared among many sectors and not exclusive only to fundamentalists.
So, I'd say it's a matter of where we Muslims stand in these modern days against our own faith, as it shouldn't be about how to water-down some really harsh Islamic concepts, which we - Muslims - know well they are true.
