BE 6 II and 45gb IBM hard drive

Tried this one in the "motherboard" section, now a try here...

Ok, my BIOS only "sees" 33gb of my 45gb drive. My IBM setup disk saw all the info and copied it from my old WD 13.6GB. Is the 33gb a limit that has been upped in later BIOS updates? I cannot find any documentation on the limitation on maximum hard drive size, so any help or experiences would be great. Thanks.

This could / because you used the Ibm setup disk, the bios will recognize larger..... As long as in windows it shows as 45 gigs, or whatever it was formatted to, it will be fine.

Incidentally, older Linux kernels had the same issue...I found this out when I tried to add a 60gb IBM IDE drive to my linux server.

Ok, that was my hope, but flashing to the latest BIOS and still no go. Some AWARD Bios' don't recognize above 32GB, so my must be one. Wonderful. Any ideas? Anyone running this size drive on one of these boards?
How much performance will I lose from ez drive? Not tried it yet, but may. By the way, Windows does not recognize it, so I am screwed out of 13gb without it. A promise or fasttrac card may be an option..More ideas please...

Hmmmmmm Maybe update the board drivers?? www.bmdrivers.com has the latest I beleive, thats about all I can think of.

This happened to me on my DFI P2xbl, Installed a maxtor(promise) ATA100 controller card and it fixed the prob...pretty sweet inconjuction w/some maxtor drives card turns out to be free after MIR...

Thanks for the ideas. Kinda wanted a promise card to play with RAID sometime. Just was hoping not to have hit the limit on hard drive size already. I could have gotten the 30gb for $30 less to begin with. Oh well, worth it for the cost of a card I guess.

No, it seems to have partitioned fine. Copied directly from my old WD 13gb drive. The IBM disk showed all 45gbs, but I seem to be screwed due to a bios limit. I was so desperate that I even tried my 366 ulta 66 controller. They are supposed to see the drives bigger than 32gb, but no love there, not to mention it did the usual nothing that I always got out the 366 controller. Heard the 370 is much better, but not sure I trust it either. I am about to try to ez drive it and see what kind of performance hit I take. Still taking ideas/suggestions..good stuff so far, keep them coming..report back on my attempts..
