Those were some bad storms yesterday. We had tornado warnings in Memphis. Luckily none touched down. On the way to work this morning, there were trees down everywhere along I-40 headed torward Jackson. Newborn has at least 8 deaths so far.

"Most of the Tennessee deaths were reported around the Gibson County towns of Bradford and Dyer, said James Brown, assistant emergency management director for the county.

In Newbern, the twister carved a path through a cluster of homes near the Jimmy Dean Foods plant north of Newbern, where several victims died. The plant, which makes breakfast sausages and other food products, was also damaged, a security guard said. A line of trees were snapped off about 9 feet above the ground."

Ou local news station stayed on the air for about 4 hours straight last night just showing weather. Every 30 minutes it seemed like there was another tornado warning somewhere in west Tennessee.

He lived in Dyer and according to the local news, he is probably OK just might not have power.

I was through Jackson, Medina, Milan, etc around 6:30 pm last night. It was a nice evening. It must have gotten rough pretty fast. I didn't get rained on until I was just getting home in Murray around 7:45. It was just starting to be a real "light show" with all the lighting down your way.

The first thing I thought of when hearing the news from Dyer County this morning. All the news services carried it...you couldn't miss it...if it wasn't about the tornadoes, it was about the wind and hail!!!
Funboy, I hope your house & cars had lots of insurance & your storm cellar was handy.

I didn't word that right. He lives in Dyer, TN.

Below is a link to a local news station with some prelim video. Some is from Brownsville, TN where I work. So far I have heard of two of our employees having major damage. The death toll in TN is now at 23.

Has anyone heard from funboy? I just read that there were eight deaths in Gibson county and some were around the city of Dyer.

"The fatality number in Gibson County is eight," James Brown, assistant emergency management director for the county, said from the county seat of Trenton. "There are 37 injuries with four of those critical."

Brown said most of the Gibson County deaths were reported around the towns of Bradford and Dyer. A family of four, including a father, mother and their two children, were among the dead in Bradford, officials said. The family names and ages weren't immediately available.

Here is another link to news on the storm. This doesn't tell a good story.

Most the deaths from the storms were along a 25-mile path stretching from Newbern, about 80 miles northeast of Memphis, east to Bradford. The National Weather Service said the storm had spawned tornadoes in five West Tennessee counties.

Dyer is in the middle between the two above mentioned towns. Hopefully Funboy and his family are doing ok.

In CA we get it right up our ... ~8.5% sales tax (depending on county) + income tax. And we are expected to report our "untaxed purchases" made through the net and mail, and pay sales tax on that too.
