where can we find videos and demos of what this physics card can do?

Agreed. I'm down for one of these once there is a game out that can use it.

There already is, it's called City of Villains. It's been made with the PhysX SDK so all users get some benefit but at cost of CPU cycles. The Ageia PPU is supposed to allow for the more complex physics to take place and free up more CPU to the game itself.

You'll laugh even harder when Quad Cores start coming out for people to watch 2-3 cores sit idle in task manager.

The cell factor video is the best one to show off the capabilities of this card- the other 2 are kinda- meh.. http://physx.ageia.com/footage.html - there are some better high def. videos of this somewhere?

I can't see how these things are going to make a big difference. Look at games right now, such as Oblivion, that have killer physics. You can play Oblivion totally maxed with a 2.2 to 2.4ghz Athlon 64. Now, use a dual core Athlon, use one of the cores only for physics, and I don't see why you'd ever need to purchase an add-on card to handle the physics side.

I can't stop laughing either; this guy is totally off his rocker!

Have you PLAYED Oblivion? Killer physics? Oblivion does have good physics, but compare it to what AGEIA is promising and it utterly pales in comparison. Seen the Cell Factor HD video?

The "extra CPU core" argument is an utter pile of trash too; why not throw out the GPU now that we can assign that extra CPU core to run graphics instead? It's not like we can put AI or animation on it, no way, it's just going to sit there forever doing nothing. Who needs a sound card, we can emulate all this stuff in software on our numerous slow CPUs! Specialized hardware is for the weak! *rolls eyes*

I wasn't saying that we should reassign graphics to our extra CPU cores. I just thought that since we are getting into dual core everything (sometimes even quad core) the reason for introducing yet another "specialized" core seams overdone. As for sound, on board does just fine in many reports. I know that the Physics processor is probably going to be needed eventually, but I also know that programers could probably make better use out of the already existent multicore compatibilities that are already available. I just wonder when there is going to be a shader core or a resolution core. Like I said, I think it does have a purpose, I just sometimes cant believe all of the hardware required to make ultra real effects.

The introduction of Quad-Core in a few years almost makes this seem obsolete. Unless programmers can keep apps multi-threaded enough to keep all the cores busy, one of the cores will most likely be idle a lot. Use one core for physics, 3 cores for processing, whats the big deal?

hhhmmm....we need a stickied thread on some of the specifics on this so we don't have to explain why the above won't work. Then we could just direct people to that thread....
