BE WARNED ABOUT PROMISE!!!!!!!

Just a note of warning here concerning Promise FastTrak 100 and Promise Ultra 100 in the same system. They will not work together.
Just received a reply to this e-mail to promise:


I have written to you before notifying you of the problem I am experiencing with the Promise Ultra 100 and the FastTrak 100 in the same system.
I have a FastTrak 100 that is working fine along with an Ultra 66. I tried to upgrade to an Ultra 100 but whenever the Ultra 100 is in the system the Fasttrak 100 will not work. In system properties it shows that my drives on the Raid is using MS-Dos compatibility. If I go back to using the Ultra 66 all is back to normal. Any help for this problem.
In order to have my system work properly I cannot use the Ultra 100.
Please respond to my question.

Here is the response:

"Dear sir:
For your question.
Our engineers are working hard to fix this issue.
This is a bug of our productions.
We are very sorry for that we cann't give the solution to you now.
When we get the solution , we will inform you immediately.
So if possible , please configure your system with U-66 and Fasttrak 100 now.
If you have any problem , please contact with me."


Just to let u ppl know. I choose an outboard RAID vs onboard since when I choose to change mobos I will have no problems. I too think Promise makes a better RAID controller but do not want it on my mainboard. (change mobo and CPUs every couple of months). just my 2 cents.

I doubt many have this combonation.... but always good to know. I think you could have done a better job with the topic tho I thought your card might be trying to kill you or something.

At least they are trying to help you out, much much much better than Highpoint. I fired up multiple mails asking them for help, but until now NOT a single reply.

You received a reply which is good,anyway there are so many different combinations (hardware wise) it`s virtually impossible to test every kind of different setup people have.Anyway thanks for the info.

You don't think it's an obvious step to test your own products together before releasing them?

Or they could simply say that they do not recommend or test combinations of their products and thus do not gaurantee that they will work.

Ultra100 crashed my IBM 75GXP multiple times in an Asus P5A mobo. Finally had to RMA it and drive works perfectly (though slower) now. Don't really trust their stability. Wouldn't mind trying the onboard asus version b/c they have a knack for making stuff more stable.

What?!!? Problems with the beloved Promise controller?!!? Say it isn't so! I keep hearing how much better the Promise is than the Highpoint 370's ...I just can't believe that the Promise could possibly not work perfectly...
