I was having heat problems after upgrading to an A8N32 and x1900xt w/ an oc'd oppy 170 @ 2.6

Board and cpu load temps in the low 50s

I tried switching 2 of my Yate Loons to 100cfm 120x38 Sanyo Denkes(undervolted with rheobus) for intake and exhaust. That basically fixed my heat problems, but not my noise problem.

Short version: oem Antec Tricool in the bottom on low. Back taped up. 120x38 Delta Low speed Triple Blade on the Si-120 and YL in the front, top, back, and side panel. All hooked up to a Sunbeam rheobus

Temps are as good now as with the side panel off and I can turn down all the fans for quite mode with resonable temps. When I want to game, I just turn them up to 12v on the rhoebus.

Cheezy Slide Show

I'm missing a screen shot. I hit the Pause Break key by accident . What it showed was that when dual priming and using the ccc overclock utility to heat up the gpu, the CPU temp actually dropped to 44.

Idle temps now 37/34 with fans at 12v.

Wow, that's great! I have the same setup as you do -- minus the graphics card, I've got 2 6800GSs in SLI -- and my idle temp with no overclock is 45C. (My maximum overclock is 2.64 -- and it idles around 49 or so) This board is hot! I may attempt that, but I don't have a hole saw (let alone a hole saw that big -- my lacrosse coach, who is a carpenter, told me that hole saws that big are pretty irregular) and I don't want to fvck the side panel. I've got a few extra fans to spare, two Panaflo midspeeds, so I may try that if I get adventurous.

Nice mod!

*suffers heart attack when he sees image of holes cut into P180*

Nice mod, even if it is tantamount to desecration of a religious site.

Yeah, I don't want to put a hole in my beloved P180. But I do! Heh. It seems like a fun project to try, unless you completely fubar it.

Here is a link to the fan with specs. I think it makes an ideal fan for the Si-120. Undervolted, it's very quiet. Full speed very tolerable.

Fan

I've had my coffee and feel I should expand I'm my previous flip post.

The hole saw isn't ideal but the side panel is plastic skinned with thin sheets of aluminium. I couldn't think of a better way to do it.

I picked out the "truest" one I could find at my local Home Depot, but I new it wouldn't be perfect.

I laid the panel flat on the ground between my feet and braced my elbows against my knees. The hardest part was keeping the saw perpendicular to the panel and getting thru the first sheet of aluminium. The saw would tend to catch a bit where it first penetrated thru the aluminium. After that it was easy. Just kept the saw turning at a low speed as to not melt the plastic.

One hole is a little off center but most importantly the cuts are clean, the aluminium didn't tear, and the panel didn't delamintate. Probably helped that the saw was new.

Hey eljaye925, if I paid you would you consider modding your other side panel, then cross-ship?

I have three extra silver panels, 2 extra black, a spare black bezel, and 2 silver bezels, so I can experiment as much as I want.

Not joking, BTW.

Nah. The black bezel for my case case warped, so I requested a new one. Nothing was really wrong with my side panels, but they weren't completely straight; not warped, I just wanted straighter than I got. So I sent off a request to Antec.

1st time, they sent me a silver bezel and 2 silver side panels
contacted about the error, they said they'd send the right ones this time
2nd time, get another silver bezel, and a single silver side panel
contacted about the error, promised they would send out the proper ones for real this time
3rd time, got a black bezel and 2 black side panels
One side panel was slightly straighter than my existing ones, but I decided it wasn't worth removing and reapplying my Acoustipack material. I think the plastic/al/plastic comb cause it to bend out slightly instead of being 100%. Nothing I can't live with, I guess. The new bezel did close unlike my old one... but the aluminum on the outside warped  I used som superglue to help, buy there's still some warpage on the left side of the door. Anyway, they're supposed to have the newer revision available where the have some aluminum on the inside to prevent the warping, as well as an improved bezel that actually uses the magnets, so I guess we'll see. Anyway, any extra material between me and any noise in the case is welcome, so I look forward to the extra layer of aluminum. Now I have to see if I get the black one, or the silver one.

one meeeeeeeeellion dollars

I'd PM you, but your profile isn't enabled.

After shipping charges both ways, you could almost cover the cost of a hole saw. Plus it's a simple mod. The most critical part is getting your measurements right so that your top hole is directly inline with your heatsink fan.
