Beating the Guardian in Doom3

Ok...I've been trying for an hour to beat this guy but to no avail. I've been shooting down the seekers but that doesn't help. When the blue ball appears, it appears in the floor and not above the Guardian. I've tried everything...god mode and noclip just so I could get away from him, but that doesn't help. I've tried full BFG charges at the blue ball...everything. I dunno what's up.

Someone please help!!!

1) Shoot down seekers (all of them)
2) Shoot blue orb on the Guardian's back
3) Rinse & repeat

Weapon of choice: Rocket Launcher (worked wonders for me). This guy was cake after I figured him out.

EDIT: Some people don't know this, but hold down SHIFT to sprint. Since you fight him in Hell you have unlimited sprint, helps make sure he has a hard time catching up to you.

What's to keep the seekers from repeatedly spawning? Or do they stop spawning after you shoot a certain number of them? . . . Do you HAVE to shoot the blue ball BEFORE all the seekers are "dead" or ONLY after?

ANd can anyone with better resolution than mine read the Cover of "Game Hog" magazine? . . . it looks like "Doom Ultra 32" is on the cover.

When you shoot all the currently spawned seekers, he will start up the blue orb thing to spawn more seekers. That's when you kick him right in the orbs.

thanks, that's what i thought . . . i just gotta get my "timing" right . . . i guess i gotta save the last seeker for when i am fully loaded on rockets AND facing the big guy. . . .

BTW, i am out of BGF ammo but the rocket launcher seems to do the trick . . .

what is this, about 75-80% way thru the game?

too bad i can't finish tonight . . . Big Party tonight.

Guardian is only the 2nd out of 4 bosses, if that tells you anything. I don't think that's 75-80% done.

Thing is, that stuff doesn't work. Not only that, the blue orb isn't on the guardian's back.

i just killed him playing medium difficulty, i lost less than 20% of my health, i only used about 15 rockets (including the ones i used on the seekers), it is true, kill all the seekers, when the orb appears above him, shoot at it with your rockets, about 5 well placed rockets will kill him. i hate it when the boses are supposed to be tough but get taken out by some obscure weakness.

The Guardian was definately the toughest boss for me. What is frustrating about Doom 3 is that you dispatch the bosses in different ways, som you just have to keep pounding with all you've got and others you have to defeat a special way (although I'm dissapointed because the last boss is a piece of cake, I knew how to beat him shortly after keeping a safe distance from him)

I figured out on my own that the flying guardian things had something to do with it...but they kept respawning. :|

yeah, i found him hard too. But once you have the soulcube, the game just gets way too easy. Maybe it's time to try Hell.

I haven't played doom3 (don't have good enough hardware), but the description of how to kill this guy makes me think of the end boss of Half-Life.

It's pretty easy. There's a stone wall type structure where you should run around in circles with the guardian following you. You can stay in front of the Guardian without worrying about the Guardians fireballs. The seekers eventually come to you. I used the chain gun to take down the seekers or SG if they flew up close. After waxing them, there's a decent amount of time to switch back to RL and pop him with a rocket. In fact, most of the time, the Gaurdian was around the corner and I still had enough time to go back to him and nail him.

My 1st 5 or so tries , i got slaughtered by that guarian.

Heck i even managed to run around that level taking shots at him until exhausted all my ammo in ALLmy weapons, had to finally attack him with the chainsaw and of course I died.

After that 20min or so hand crippling battle, i had to look up how to beat him too.

Wasn't hard at all once i knew the weakness, but b4 that i was running in circles yelling stuff like
"NO WAY.!", "I WANNA SEE SOMEBODY DO THIS, ITS IMPOSSIBLE!"..etc..etc..

Used shotgun on seekers and rocket launcher on his "back" at the right moments.

Just remember to reload BOTH of your preferred weapons while you're running around dodging fireballs and pecking off the seekers.

Sucks when ya kill the seekers and have a shot at him only to try & shoot and watch your rocket launcher reload...LOL

I just beat the game.. the final boss was EASY! Run around, dodge the rockets, kill the baddies to recharge the soul cube, and attack the boss with the sc. Repeat till dead.

Sure looks like you didn't read this thread . . . the EASY way is to kill all XCEPT 1 seeker; load up on rockets, then blast the remaining seeker and unload the remaining 4 rockets into the blue spawning ball.

Repeat.

2 easy.

Was just posting it WAS a difficult battle for me also until i knew about the seekers also.

Anywhooo...agreed, it IS easy when you know how.

i got that part . . . i thought it ws unnecessarily complicated . . .

IF you leave ONE seeker alive, you only need to reload rockets - no need to switch anything. Then you only need to wait until the seeker and the guardian are 'in line'; blast the seeker then unload on the blue glowing spot.

Simple, no?

And "knowing about the seekers" is UNavoidable unless you are deaf - you keep hearing the whispered hint: "destroy the seekers and the guardian is vulnerable"

This is the FIRST fps game i did NOT need ANY help and also the first fps game i beat the FINAL BOSS in ONE try. Maybe they should port this to GameCube for the kiddies . . .

You mean 2 shots into the blue spawning sphere?

Somehow i misplaced by BFG by then, anyway.

The rockets worked great though . . .

Ah, not arguing when is the best time to reload the rocket launcer or whywas trying to conserve rockets for later .
(which turned out to be a wasted effort, but i didnt know that at the time)

Actually i should have stated it more clearly, yes the whispers did mention the seekers, so i killed them, but i didnt know to aim for the blue orb on his back.

Just stated how I did it.

Differnet technique, same result.

No way we are arguing over how we killed a game boss different. LOL
We've gotta let that die.
