I understand the bugs are attracted to CO2 but since a gas, what are they attracted to? Do they home in on the nozzle, or what? If you emit CO2 gas from a tank, why would the bugs decide to crawl into the pan of water?

From what I was reading, they sense somehow where the CO2 is coming from and hone in on it to find their target.

So by placing dry ice in the middle, they naturally hone in on the dry ice and by having the powder in the bowl around it they fall into the powder and cannot get out.

I picked up a thermis yesterday but can't seem to find a local place that sells dry ice pellets.

I just had a really messed up realization. I had drilled holes in the wall this summer in order to run CAT6 from one end of the apartment to the other. Is it feasible they were living inside the walls and came out through the microscopic opening around the CAT6 cable? If so, what can I do to seal it up, as far as caulk, etc.?

The whole thing is freaking me out, the more I research about it the more disgusting and creepy the whole thing feels.

Uh.. lol

The bedbugs were not "laying dormant" in your walls. That's ridiculous. You had a stow-away from your recent trip. Or they were there before.

Some good suggestions in this thread though. Fortunately, I've never had to deal with these beasts. Hope I never do.

Ugh.. I had a problem with bedbugs earlier this year. But the infestation was there already when we moved in to a new apartment. On top of it, there was a roach infestation. It was probably one of the grossest/shittiest times in my life, albeit fairly short (luckily). I had to stay in the apartment for a week or two since it was my only place to stay close to my college. I didn't realize there were bedbugs until the 2nd or 3rd night when I saw one drop down next to me. One thing they do is climb up the walls, and when they feel warmth they'll drop down to it and find the source. Ugh, just thinking of it makes me naseous and creeped out all over again. I got very little sleep for that time, and tried everything to minimize the bed bug bites until I could move out, but really nothing was very effective.

When I moved out, I had to wash everything, literally. And I had to throw away my favorite chair, because both roaches and bed bugs are so easy to cary. It was kinda sad . I also had to throw away my lovely foam mattress.

I was incredibly lucky that I carried very few bugs with me to my next place (it's near impossible not to carry a few). Only found about 3 roaches at my new place, killed them right away. Found two live bed bugs, and later on one dead one. The exterminator said it was great that it was dead, and that the only other one was found in the hallway, because it was looking for blood I guess, and hadn't found either of us yet. That was a couple months ago, and the roach was several months ago. So we are clean. What a relief. Ugh, but that time in the other apartment was terrible. I was to the point of tears every night after the first week or less, but maybe I'm a pansy for it. Or maybe not, because it's pretty shitty not to be able to sleep because you're scared of roaches and bed bugs climbing all over you at night. I had to call my mom in the middle of the night for consolation, lol.

Anyway, good luck! I know it's a disgusting and hellish situation.
