It tastes like five spice powder (a little licorice hint), and a little sweet. I ordered during some deal a while back - I liked the taste a lot, some pieces had tough fat or tendons and were inedible. BTW, shipping was about $6 to Raleigh. I think the last deal I got in on had this price but free ship.

Another option is Costco, who has 2x 9oz bags of OboyOberto for $9. (Might be a little off, but not by much)

This stuff tastes nothing like Oberto or other American jerky. I've never had the fruit, but the spicy stuff was only mildly spicy with the 5-spice flavor. It was soft, the cubes are moist.

Yeah, that was my experience with Fortune Jerky. That, and it was a lot more dry than I like. I'll just wait 'til I'm in Taiwan from now on.

It also has a tender texture as opposed to American jerky that can be dry and tough.

If anyone is curious, Asian-style jerky is what is in our soldier's ration packs. Made by Formosa. The front of package says in big letters "MADE IN THE USA" just incase a soldier has second thoughts about eating it.

I know this is boarderline thread crap, but really, it is relevant...

You can roll your own fairly inexpensively. It will not be the translucent hard jerky you buy and does require refrigeration.

Start with a Hi Mountain Jerky Maker which you can get there or at places like Bass Pro Shop. The price is about $30 and it is made from stainless steel (although I am not sure the skewers are.)

I go to a local asian market to get my supplies. In Atlanta, the Buford Farmer's Market offers frozen, thin-sliced ribeye for as low as $1.99 a pound. I marinate overnight with recipes I found doing a dogpile search. It takes about 1 hr 45 minutes to become jerky in the oven at 200 degrees F (about 95 C).
