The emphasis kind of gives away the tone. Tone kind of means everything doesn't it? I think if it was like "She kind of has the face of a male" that's not very derogatory... How you can't see "THE FACE OF A MALE" as derogatory I don't know.

Text has a lot of communication barriers; who knows what he meant by saying it in caps. Maybe he just wanted to really point that out? Or maybe he was personally meaning it in a derogatory manner; I can't decide that.

He didn't say you were ugly or anything, he just said you have the face of a man, which I believe is true. You have a very masculine face structure and jaw-line. Some people just don't articulate their exact meaning all the time.
