It may be a bad plan for the OP. I don't know and neither does anyone else here. I simply object to the seemingly reflexive demonizing of alcohol use.
Isn't there a thread here with thousands of replies, titled "what are you drinking" or something like that? I don't recall there being much "reflexive demonizing of alcohol use" in that thread.

I'll just take my bottle and leave.

But if a person begins drinking in the morning because they believe it's necessary to help them focus and be productive, that is not drinking responsibly.

I don't think anyone said it was necessary. Why do you find the need to create a straw man?

Back to the topic at hand: yes, I agree to an extent. I have never drank a beer in the morning to test this theory, as such, but there is a very strong focusing effect I feel when I do drink. It's like after 1-2 drinks, I can more easily think and focus on one thing, and all the little minor issues of the day fade into the back of my memory.

I suspect this has something to do with how my brain works, and not everyone is affected the same way by alcohol, which explains why some people disagree so strongly- it might just be for them, moderate alcohol doesn't have the same effect.

I'm sorry you're so deeply in denial that your reflexive defensiveness automatically triggers the "blame them for noticing" routine.

Yes, it's very possible to enjoy alcohol and yes, it's very possible to drink responsibly. But if a person begins drinking in the morning because they believe it's necessary to help them focus and be productive, that is not drinking responsibly. It's a warning sign of alcoholism.

Projecting??

You are self medicating for an attention deficit problem.

Projecting??

I've had 2 beers in the last three weeks, so, ummm, no.

But I have dealt with a couple of alcoholic family members (one of the reasons I drink so little) and recognize the red flags. Drinking to start your day is an almost certain sign of substance abuse.

Oddly, it seems to make me more productive compared with coffee drinking. When I drink coffee, I get kind of paranoid and jumpy. I have tons of energy, but it is totally unfocused and I end up doing things like watching news excessively and impulsively, while with beer, it seems to make it easier to focus and do work.

Anyone else notice something similar? Coffee seems to be good if you're not making the decisions but someone else is, but for self-directed work beer and alcohol makes for more focus it seems.

I've had more than a few breakfast beers in my time. Not often before or at work, though.

I don't see the harm, but the bigger question I have is: Why do you feel you need to alter your mood/energy in the morning in ANY way? Is it just your logical thinking that if everyone is getting juiced on coffee, and you don't care for the effect, then you'll try going the other way?

Why not just go as-is?

I need something to fuel me in the morning. I have a problem of going overboard on sugary foods or fatty foods like sausage.

Note, in the op I said something about drinking a fraction of a bottle of beer in the morning. I just finished this *one* bottle damn near 12 hours later and I'm not going to have another. Some of my friends can just sit on the couch and pound beer after beer--I literally stop after a fraction of a beer every time.

my wake-me-up recipe: about 6 oz of black coffee, 2 tps of coffee mate, and 6-8 oz of Irish cream, all mixed well.

Nothing gets me going like a fresh buzz in the morning.

OP, ignore the haters, do your own thing. If it works, it's not stupid.

In an hour I'm gonna have a breakfast beer. Only because I'm finishing up a 12 hour night shift then. If I'm working days, zero desire to have a breakfast beer.

Two deep bong hits, a 16oz beer and smoking a cigarette on the shitter has been my morning routine for 30 years.

Then I question your need for it at all. Just drink water, or low caffeine tea. At that rate the alcohol isn't doing anything for you and the only change is the lack of caffeine.

The other possibility is that you have an emotional attachment to beer, which is why it's making you feel better even at such a low concentration. That's a whole different type of unhealthy, but is still an alcohol problem.

I think that's a bit like saying a HS senior is a sex offender because their SO is a minor; it's technically right but the connotations it always carries don't match reality. Being a nervous person that needs to chill out is a problem, and using an almost homeopathic dose of alcohol as a placebo is using alcohol to solve a personal problem, but that's not nearly the same thing as being drunk or hungover for half a week.

I don't really see anything wrong with drinking in the morning, it's all about the mindset, and if you don't get drunk then that's fine. It's if you do it just to get drunk then yeah that's probably alcoholism. I also personally don't like to drink on days before I have to work, just in case there may still be alcohol in the system after. Some people are very good at detecting that and it would just be bad.
