never played WOW - is it worth it if I only have a couple of hours max, to play at a time?

will I be able to do much in that time period?

i'm looking for an alternative to BF2142 - i'm a major silver right now and although every online game is different, it's getting a bit repetitive.

was thinking about quake wars, but heard alot of negative comments about it.

thanks,
rp.

WoW s fun for awhile, at least until you get to the part where you have to raid 24/7 to get anything done or get new items.

If you have good sense of self control and friends to play it with, WoW can be pretty fun. Personally, all I play for is the PvP so I find leveling from 1-70 is a bit boring but once you get to 70 with good gear it's pretty fun. Just ask yourself what you'd like to do in the game like...do you want to do PvP like me or raids and other things. But, if you get too attached it'll ruin your FPS skill so I've cut down a bit and continued to play CS. It's nice to have a balance.

i really don't have any friends playing WOW..

i have decent self control - I do have to wake up early for work. i'd like to try PvP, but at lower levels, I guess that's not too much fun.

maybe i'll look into tf2 as well.

I played WoW for a couple months, got to level 45 on one char, 49 on another, and quit. It just got boring, just like every other MMO. Now as soon as I log in, I'm instantly bored. Not worth the time you'll put in. A co worker has a level 70 char, but he quit recently because he doesn't have the time or desire to do raids that last like 20 hours total. I can't even imagine being in a guild with those losers that take the game so seriously. I'd HAVE to tell them to stop being morons.

All I play now is BF2142 and BF2. If you don't have BF2, buy it.

This is what some people enjoy... don't ruin their fun. WoW can provide some decent challenges... it's finding people that have the same mindset as you about these challenges that is the hard part.

Buy BF2 for 10 bucks and D/L the free Pirates Mod for it. Or, TF2 is much more of a simple fun gameplay than 2142 and could be good for your interests. Lacks on depth atm and doesn't provide you with the fancy unlocks and crap BF does, which is lame anyway.

WoW though.. I would recommend against at this point. You can get things done in a 2 hour window, however.

Please save your own life and do not get WoW. That games might be fun for a while but it just sucks you in.

Just wait a while and get Cod4 or UT2k7 when it comes out. Or get TF2.

Is anyone else tired of the responses like this? It's like all the impulsive and weak-willed people come out of the woodwork when someone mentions WoW.

I had a bunch of friends I played CS with who love WoW. I say had because after awhile they stopped coming on IRC and just played WoW all the time.

I couldn't really get into it myself but I only played for about 10 hours during a free weekend promotion they had awhile back.

I'd recommend getting TF2, get the Orange Box so you can play portal too.

Meh, I roughly have the same schedule. Rolled a mage on WoW and play for maybe 1-2hrs tops per day. It's okay but I guess unless you're willing to get into a guild and start grouping, it's really boring.

I have WoW... sitting new and unopened on my bookshelf... har har.

I recently discovered the old gem called Sid Meier's Pirates (2004, not 1987 version) and have been playing that. It's pretty fun and at times comical (like beating an army of 400 with 125 pirates).

WoW is addictive by design, and so are most MMOs. If you look at the time spent/level curve, it looks like an exponential curve... The exponential reward system has been shown to be very effective at drawing people in.

Granted, it's still the fault of a weak-willed person to become addicted, but that's what Blizzard is counting on

ok, even if all thats true, we've heard it how many times now? i mean really, how many times does someone have to say the same exact thing? usually it gets said multiple times in one thread.

I started playing WoW 1 year ago. Last week I got to lvl 70 with my hunter. It took me a little over a year, playing roughly 2 hours a day, to get to 70. I completely enjoy the game due to a little bit of grinding, a little bit of questing, a little bit of PvP, a little bit of role playing, and a fun guild, which I found after going through about 4 guilds total.

Give WoW a try. See all the eye candy and play for a couple hours a day or whatever, just keep it as a GAME.

Send me a PM if you want a server/guild to join

I quit WoW at level 33 and even had friends to play with. No MMO is fun unless you have unlimited time.

If you get WOW your skin will turn a pasty white color and all of your friends will leave you.

Things like that actually happened according to some sources.

I'd recommend against any MMORPG, but if your going to do it then maybe try one of the new ones coming out.
