Ok, so now I'm crashing...damn FIC board (the Tyan Trinity S1590S is on the way!), no video (you know, the little yellow light comes on on the monitor).

When I "cold" reboot the light STAYS yellow and the board beeps (one beep every second or so...beep....beep...beep...beep), the initial boot up routine SOUNDS like it's running, but then stops. I don't think it's a video adapter problem, 'cause that beep error is one LOOONG beep as soon the machine comes on.

Funny thing is, if I leave the machine off for an hour or so...it WILL boot correctly.

Now I've felt the case, it's cool, I've opened the case, all fans are running. So I don't believe it's heat.

Any ideas?

do you have a manual for the board, they usually say what the different error sounds mean

well do you see anything on the screen? if you do, then it's not a video proble, 2 beeps is usually the keyboard and a looooong beep i think is no ram. also, could be a no processor problem, but i know the bios doesn't tell the cpu to come on until a certain time anyway.

Nope, there's nothing on the screen. The monitor acts as if the PC isn't on (the little yellow light is on). Weird.

I've tried reseating the vid card, reseating the RAM. What's really weird is the pc will boot after being dormant for an hour or so.

Oh,...ever see a FIC manual. Let's say it's a bit lacking, and leave it at that.

This may be a reach, but I had a similar problem with strange beeps that weren't described in my manual. My screen would get something, then as windows came up it would go black. My problem was that my case had a LED for Turbo and the motherboard manual told me to plug it in in a certain spot. As soon as I unplugged the turbo LED everything worked fine. I had posted to various sites and no one had seen this before. I happened to pull that one by luck, just because it was the only one I really didn't know what it did and I had tried every other suggestion given. Such as reseating all my cards, removing everything but the video card, hard drive, memory , and processor. Switching all of the above mentioned parts out to make sure one of them wasn't bad. Switching out the internal speaker, the power supply. Taking the motherboard out of the system and booting up to check if something in my case was shorting the system. Another site that I got some helpful info from was Tom's Hardware Forums.

Hopefully this helps or gives you an idea of something else to try.

Snoop, not sure whether or not your being serious...but in case you are...it's going...bep...bep...bep...bep...bep. No looooong beeps and no beeps closetogether.

I'll try reseating the CPU tonite. I hope it's NOT the cpu (AMD K6-III 450), cause I'll have to replace it with a K6II-400 which I have, and didn't like. I had already ordered a new Socket 7 board (finding THAT wasn't easy), and if I tell the wife I have to replace the CPU too, she's gonna freak. I already spent about a grand on the Duron System I built for the kid.

I don't have a PCI vid card, unfortunately. Replacing the vid card's gonna be even more expensive than replacing the CPU!

Yeah, I got sticks of RAM to swap. But this allll goes back to my original problem...not being able to use more than one stick at a time.

I really think it is unlikely that I can have 2 out 3 sticks (plus 2 I SENT BACK originally) of RAM alll be bad. It's gonna be a problem with the DIMM slots...or the bus...or the freakin' board!

If I load allll three sticks into the Tyan (once I get it) and it runs without a problem, I'm gonna flame the hell outta FIC. This is the SECOND 503+ I've owned.

Here are the Beep code for the award Bios if that is what you have 1 Long Beep indicates a problem with memory in the first bank, usually an unseated memory module
1 Long, 2 Short indicates a problem with the video card or the memory on it
1 Long, 3 short also indicates a problem with video or the memory on video card
Continuous this usually indicates a problem with the memory, but sometimes is a video problem
Hope this was of some help also have codes for the Pheonix and AMi if you need them

I would say majority of mobo has following beep code...

ONE long and 3 very short beeps is video card related.
Continuous beeps is memory related.
NO screen and NO beep means time to buy a new CPU.

Thanks Terrier, it is an AWARD BIOS, and I'd found the same info just a short time ago.

Guess the consensus is memory.

Thanks guys, I know how much you guys enjoy wild goose chases like this!!

I have a similar problem with my K6-350 on a DFI motherboard with Via chipset. When I turn it on, the screen stays blank and I get the continous beeps. I hold the power button until it powers down, then push the power button again and it starts normally. Weird!
