I used to work at a small company with beer in the fridge and kegs at company parties. My current company doesn't allow any alcohol during work hours which I think is a shame.

When I was working swing shift at a warehouse in college a friend and I used to hit up a mexican place at lunch once every few weeks (really dinner, our lunch was at like 6pm) and split a bucket of beers.

Then I worked at another place that had "Beer Fridays." They kept a fridge stocked with beer and after 3:30 on Fridays we could grab a beer and drink it at our desk, or hang out in the breakroom and chat or whatever. That was pretty cool. Too bad I didn't enjoy the rest of the job, so I was only there a few months.

I do from time to time. When our division VP from Japan is over here, he like to take us out for a tequila shot contest at lunch.

Nope. Can't say that I haven't walked into work hung over (and maybe would still blow over the legal limit) but I don't drink during my lunch break. Back in our company's hay day we drank all the time when we were doing overnight projects. I can remember 4 of us spending somewhere around 800 bucks on alcohol alone after a big data center migration all thanks to the corporate card.

I mostly do government contracting work... IIRC it's technically illegal to work on a gov't contract after drinking. Or if not illegal, then at least in violation of the contracts.

At my old job we used to do it anyway occasionally. It was a rather small company at the time, they've since gotten much bigger so they're probably not as tolerant of things like that anymore.

Definitely not at my current job, but I don't really like most of my co-workers here anyway, so I'm not missing anything by not drinking beers with them.

it states in our contract that we are not to drink or use drugs while on the clock.

This answer of course depends on the job and people you work with but for the most part, it's a bad idea. Even in small amounts. That being said I have been with many companies where having a drink or 2 with lunch was accepted (although I doubt officially by HR). 1 ad agency I was with used to have cases of beer delivered on fridays with pizza.

I work at an educational institution, so it's technically illegal for me to consume alcohol during work hours, even if it isn't on campus. And I haven't.... since I realized that. Which, in my defense, was well over a year ago. We do occasionally have office outings at the end of the day where we will go to the bar for a quick pint before leaving, but those are few and far between.

A few years ago I was working in a law firm in a building that had many small law firms renting space. The breakroom was shared, and the fridge was always fairly well-stocked with beer and wine. I never got to drink any of it, but we worked around the corner from a bar with a great lunch menu. 2 pints of rubinator at lunch FTW yo.

Oh ok, nevermind then.

Oh, I've had days where I wish I could do that...

back when I was a receptionist, a bunch of the secretaries/admin-assistants and I would go out to lunch at friday's once or twice a week and have a cocktail or wine with lunch... I wouldn't do it at my current job, though.

I've been working here for 5 years and I can count the number of times that I haven't eaten lunch at my desk on one hand.

I'll occasionally have a drink out to lunch. If I go to Cuban, I get a Mojito. If I go to Chinese, I get one of those fruity drinks in the big cup. If I go for Sushi, I have some Sake. Beers here and there as well, it takes the edge off.

About once a month, always on a Friday. With co-workers, at most 3 pints. If my boss is with me, 2 max.

I like to drink a little whiskey in my car when I feel like taking a break. The smokers here have their smoking break, so I feel I can take my "drinking" break without issue. It really calms me down sometimes.

I do it all the time. We often smoke and drink in the office too sometimes, the boss included.

Not on a regular basis, though my supervisor brought beer to our last group meeting, and then in a subsequent meeting at a restaurant the company provided a couple of beers too.

At my previous company where I was on contract, we had "Happy Hour" on Friday afternoons, so I sometimes had a beer with coworkers before leaving the office.

My current company, though very liberal about dress code, Internet restrictions, etc, does not allow any alcohol on premises. It used to many years ago when it was a much smaller company.

Anyways, even if alcohol were allowed, my office is so friggin' hot from all the computers around that I would probably fall asleep after one beer. Not so good.
