it's because for the first time in your life, you were actually surrounded with much better beer and had the opportunity to discover how dull and useless Guinness actually is.

I don't think you should really make this argument, I went to germany for Oktoberfest a couple of years ago, European beer ftw!

Normally I hate light beer but you really should try Sam Adams Light. It is totally different from your typical American "Lite" beer.

I recently bought Hitachino White Ale on a whim because I liked the packaging:

It was absolutely delicious. So flavorful and smooth.

Stone's IPA
Stone's Ruination
Anything Dogfish

Sam Adams Boston Lager, in my opinion, is the best beer you can get almost anywhere in the United States.

Whoever mentioned Sam Adam's Chocolate Bock ... Good lord I had a bottle at Thanksgiving and it's almost undrinkable for how sweet it is. You can definitely taste the chocolate though... just not for me. I do tend to prefer IPA's and the like.

That being said I do enjoy some of Sam Adam's offerings. Cream Stout comes to mind, along with Irish Red, and their Winter Lager.

Hm... if you get it in your area, Old Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is pretty good.

Blue Moon is good, but Bells Oberon is better......too bad they won't brew it for another 5 months. I hate the goddamned winter!

Glad to see another bells supporter! Here in Kalamazoo (where bell's is) we can get Oberon all year round Most of their best beers they don't bottle and are only available in the Pub. Besides, Hopslam will be out soon!

To the OP.
Without knowing what available in Texas.
Any Dogfish Head, 60 min IPA at the top
Any Magic Hat with a big nod for #9

I've had beer all over Europe...most of it is crap. There are some gems, but overall it is craptastic. Especially the various brews in France.

Not sure those are the best suggestions for the OP since he listed a bock and a light wheat beer as his favorites. Those tend to not be very bitter.

It's worth trying a super-bitter beer like an IPA but those are an acquired taste. You can't just say "hey I love this IPA, you should try it and join the ranks of the beer snobs." You'll just make them hate it.

This is speaking from experience. I tried a Bell's Two Hearted on someone's recommendation a couple years ago and all I could taste was sap (I guess from tons of hops) and bitterness. Since then I have always stuck to less-bitter beers and I'm unwilling to try another IPA.
