Hoegaarden is awesome, but you can't have a stout list without guinness!

I enjoy a nice pint of Guinness every now and then, but there are other cheaper and better (IMO) brews that can be found here in the States.

Hmm I bet that's because you haven't tried a real Guinness, honestly go to dublin spend £1.50 and have a proper on, I was so disappointed with how crap it tasted in the US of A

Sierra Nevada Wheat is a very good all-around beer. You could also try Beck's Dark.

The Samuel Adams Winter Classic Variety Pack is an excellent choice for someone out to try a few different brews and it wont break the bank.

Would like to purchase a couple more myself, before they disappear.

Cheers

Yuengling Lager

Best fairly cheap beer ever

QFT - I'm in Ohio (where it isn't available) and have considered a beer run to PA or WV to get this.

Sam Adam's is also pretty good... I thoroughly enjoy their seasonal blends.

New Belgium Mothership Wit is one of the better wit styles widely available.
They also make a 1554 ale that's great.

Just look for the New Belgian sampler pack to get both of those and a few others and see what you think.

Those are both very good. My current favs are from Lost Coast Brewery. Downtown Brown (brown ale) and Great White (belgian white).

Best beer ive personally had: KonigsHoven Quadrupel. Sometimes called Trapist Ale instead of KonigsHoven. But its $20 for a 4-pack. Ouch. But so worth it.

Three Floyds Gumballhead is a great beer. Another favorite of mine is Dogshead Brewery's Palo Santo Marron.

I am looking to try some new beers. Would like some suggestions.

So far, Shiner Bock seems to be my favorite while I like Blue Moon as well.

Any recommendations?

you're here in texas, try all the st. arnold's.

also see if you can find southern star. spec's has it if you're near one of those. don't be afraid of the can, cans are better than bottles nowadays (the linings are perfect, less head space than a bottle and no light penetration means no skunking).

I love cans. Wish more good beer came in cans. I've been known to have a couple cans of beer in my Camelbak while mountain biking at night. Or in the day, for that matter, although that's less often. Don't want to bring glass for fear of crashing and subsequent glass shards piercing my spine.

It could be, I'm not so good with breweries. Yeah when I was in america I saw how expensive ales were.... Most unfortunate, one night I got stuck with a Miller "High Life" how they get away with calling it High life, I have no idea. Also you can't wack a nice pint o' Guinness, that being said it does not taste right over your side of the pond.

Guinness here tastes exactly like Guinness anywhere else: flat and dull.

The only thing we don't get--and I don't believe you get in the UK, either, is their Foreign Extra. That is one tasty oatmeal stout.

you lie.

in the city center of Dublin, at least, a pint of Guinness at a pub is ~5 fucking euros.

and, again, it is no more or less "proper Guinness" than what they ship all over the world.

St Bernardus abt 12

Or, for under $10 a 6er, I can't seem to get away from Goose Island 312.

it's because for the first time in your life, you were actually surrounded with much better beer and had the opportunity to discover how dull and useless Guinness actually is.

see the beer list in my sig. its a google doc spreadsheet sorted by style, color, brewery, and ABV, with comments about the beers. not 100% complete but it should be a decent guide...its handy if you have a smartphone while youre shopping

sam adams chocolate bock is good, the winter pack suggestion is a good idea. i dislike the boston lager, but everything else in that pack is pretty tasty. chocolate bock, winter lager, winter ale (like a blue moon kinda), fuzziwig ale, holiday porter (bitter, darker beer)

good, affordable way to try some decent beers.
