Last night I went to my monthly support meeting and we thought it would be a great idea to take pictures of everyone. I am down over 125lbs. I don't really know what my highest weight was, but im wagering somewhere around 315... when I started on my journey I was about 295. I am currently weighting in at 165lbs (this includes about 15lbs of excess skin that will have to be removed sometime in the next year or so, after I maintain a healthy weight for a while)

Me (wearing my old "before" pants)
Me and a friend cuddling in a pair of "before" pants
My before/after comparison pic Notice the "muffin top" that is all skin, no fat

That is awesome, congratulations. A lot of times it seems to me people trivialize/over-simplify these types of achievements by saying 'eat right and exercise and you'll lose weight' it's still a challenge that requires constant dedication.

Lookin' good!

great work!

but now, tell us a little about how you did it -- how much time between before and after? what sort of routine did you implement? did you keep a journal of sorts?

It's been about a year from before/after. I was on a doctor supervised (non bernsteins) restricted diet. I was on a very high protein, very low carb diet.

Rules were as follows:

No more than 9g of fat per meal, no greater than 35g of fat per day
Must eat 6 times a day
Must not eat more than 1/2 - 3/4cup of food per "meal"
Must not eat anything with more than 2g of sugar, unless this sugar is naturally derived. If eating more than 2g of sugar then "sugar" or any similiar should not be listed in the first 6 ingredients
Must only drink 6oz MAXIMUM of 100% juice a day.
Must drink a minimum of 64oz of water a day
Must have a mininum of 80g of protein a day
Must follow the 5/30 rule; do not drink within 5 minutes of meal time and do not drink until 30 minutes after meal time.

I also, until recently, went to the gym 4 times a week and worked with a personal trainer once a week. I am currenly registered to do a bike marathon on June 1st. I will be riding 50km. So most of my exercise is now outside training for that.

The only log I kept was a picture journal to track the changes.

thanks for sharing. is it safe to assume that initially it was difficult to maintain that many strict rules but in time it got easier and easier to the point where now it's just part of your normal lifestyle?

if people saw the big picture like that, knowing that once you get over that initial hump, then it becomes so much easier with greater results.

The first 6 weeks were pure hell.. and then it became second nature.

Keeps from washing the food you just ate out of your stomach, so that you are satiated longer.

What works best for me is to not even have a drink near by during meals. We tend to grab for our drinks without even thinking about it. So if its not near you, you cant grab it. and also.. chew chew chew.. eat slowly.

Wow...congrats on losing it and keeping it off. The thing you really adhered to was the lifestyle change...that and dedication is all that's needed to really be successful at it. But congrats, you look totally different, in a good way.

"How yooooooooou doin'?"

Congrats, that is amazing, huge transformation! Just curious, if you don't mind, how much is the surgery to remove excess skin?

For a Tummy tuck its anywhere from $6-10k Canadian. I will only be getting the tummy tuck, as that's were the majority of my skin hangs.

That's quite expensive, but worth it for your self-image. You've made an awesome amount of progress and set a good example of how one can transform him/herself into how they want to look. I just wanted to say congrats and I look forward to hearing how your surgery goes.

$6-10k isn't too bad for that, I know I'd definitetly get it. You look great, your arms, jawline and neck all look nice and tight.
