Okay,

I've been following the ongoing rivalry between AT anf DPC with more and more amazement.
I hope that the problems will get solved, before things get really out off hand. therefore i wanted to point out an interesting discussion at dpc:

http://gathering.tweakers.net/Forum3/HTML/001856.html

engineer and the others, please look at this discussion.

I'm not willing to choose between either side, nor am i member of either group, but i don't like these fights. So please stop fighting, it's not funny anymore...

please?

Engineer,
Pretty well worded. It may also be fair to include this thought. Often, cultural differences, and the way we process language make *intent* different than delivery.

This is one of the reasons the job of a translator is so difficult. Not only must one know the words of the language, but what the speaker meant to say.

A simple innocuous gesture in the US can get you beaten severely in another culture, just because of how it is *percieved* - not how it was intended.

I would remind both groups to consider carefully how things are worded prior to taking offense to a statement. Could be a misunderstanding due to cultural difference. Doesn't mean either side is more "cerebral" than the other - just different.

My 2 cents.

Engineer: Your wording is fine. I can not imagine anyone within TA finding fault with your message.

Paulson: it's mostly bilingual (this specific thread) so knock yourself out

Engineer: I'm only a recent follower of topics here, I only registered just today (had to before i could respond ) but I think you'll see the wisdome *ahum* in my words there..
Liek TA-forums are English based GoT is Dutch based, therefore English post (like Dutch here) how informative, funny, or whatever they aren't really apreciated.
If you can find someone to translate youer words into Dutch and our Dutch into words for you however: PLS do so.. I think you're an intelligent person witch would give GoT an added value
If English is al you can: then I believe it would be best that you respect our wishes (like we should respect TA's here) and not post

Now THAT's among the more intelligent things I've heard. Question is of course WHO knows both languages? I can help a little with German, Japanese and Spanish - but Dutch? - haven't had time to learn any.

Given some of the rancorous battles, any translation needs to be carefully done with an appreciation for the differences in humor between us.

I can translate dutch <-> English as most People from the netherlands can. So if you want to make a remark or read something on our bord, give me a buzz, but not to much please.

E-mail me at scraper@bigfoot.com for translations. If it's to much I'll e-mail you back with the reason

The words of the engineer do also have the approval of many DPC-members, you also know that every forum has it's rebels, you can't do much about it, but point the correct behaviour out to them each time they step over the line.

The posting of Engineer has been translated into Dutch, I hope i've used the correct words to express his ideas, but it's kinda tough if you don't know the person, although through his postings I've figured that he must be a friendly person, that I like to have around in the DPC-forum.

If I wasn't so damn proud of being Dutch, I would've joined your team by now, but hey, it's the best team we've got and I think it's pretty competitive.

Now forget about all this, grab a beer or someting/someone you like and keep up the friendly competition.

Gizmo, my version is wel.. quite the same so yes
I think most of us can agree on this topic too, give or take a few people that honnestly don't agree (just in case someone knows a valid reason to flame ) and a few more idiots that just like to make other people angry

HELLO

as a active member of dpc and also big fan of tweakers.net
i must say that i am disapointed by the way some of our dutch college`s react , qw and collin for example . i like the competition ,but every one should be left in his value, flaming will not change anything `bout that. about us talking and writing english [american] we have to , in this world english is the language [ i only have english operating systems ]i hope that after mf6 we keep going the way we are now ,and that we have a nice game doing it, but the mean thing about rc5 is showing the world what combined people or computers can establish. therefor i think the flaming should be over and we can continue to show the world our power TOGETHER .

sorry for typo`s [ but it even happens to microsoft ,so blame me ...]

Welll, i disagree with the fellow-DPC's who are against using English on our forum. We must realize that it's the same for them writing Dutch on GOT as us talking Russian at Hackzone. we cant even read the crap that they write there and i think that we should give them the opportunity to talk back at us on GOT (no trolls allowed offcourse)

This is my opinion. It should be mentioned that I don't decide in regard to what is allowed and what is not. This in the sole hands of Femme Taken, the founder/administrator of GOT. I expect him to have nothing against speaking English there but thats just a hunch offcourse.

greetings,
Andy AKA Koetje van eigen deeg AKA *.*

We'll just run our posts through babblefish. That should really add some excitment to the posts.

Mandrill:

With all due respect, I don't think babblefish (?) is capable of translating your sentences into Dutch. If you only knew what it did to Pinball's comment. (LOL) .

But I guess short sentenses will do.

Good luck.

DeJa Vu!

DeJa: I think that is his point;anyone who has used it knows Babblefish's limitations. It could create alot of excitment with its horrible handling of idiom and slang.
