So I pull up to go get a beverage at 7-11. I see a guy standing outside, I knew he was going to ask for money. Sure enough he doesn't ask for spare change but instead he says hey man you wouldn't happen to have like $2. I say of course I do but I wont give it to you. I go inside, get my drink then as I am coming out, he says something like hey, wanna suck my balls. I asked how much that paid, he said about $300. I just left, should I of gone for the $300? If so, would he then of asked me for the $300 so he could pay me?

Needlessly antagonizing a beggar is just plain dumb. Why take jabs at someone who might have a weapon and already has nothing to lose?

I hate beggers, like absolutly hate them and hope they all end up dead, they are nothing but worthless scum, like leeches. Completly worthless to society. They dont even want jobs or to have to work they just want a easy handout.

I used to think that they were just people who fell on hard times and were trying to get back on their feet, but then i got a job as a warehouse manager and my view of them completly changed.

I took the light rail transit to work and got off in downtown vancouver to take a quick bus to work so ran into 100's of beggers a day at the transit stations and bus stops. And I worked for a very poorly managed company and we were constantly moving stock from one building to the next and assembling and dissasembaling racking, as well as unloading containers. So i was constantly using those labour ready type businesses to get 1-4 general labourers per day to do the grunt work so my FL operators and pickers/shippers could focus on their work and not have to do the grunt tasks.

I cant count how many times(over 500) i offered beggers(not the nasty ones but the cleaner ones) a job for a day possibly longer if they performed well to come do some grunt work, we paid the temps $15 a hour so it wasnt like it was bad money, do that for a few weeks or months and it would be enough to get you back on your feet. Out of the 500+ people i offered jobs to only 1 ever took me up on it and he ended up being a solid employee, but every other one turned me down.

How do you not take a brainless no skill required job paying $15 per hour when you are homeless living on the street, answer is you are worthless scum that dosnt deserve to live.

I used to think all beggars were worthless. Then a guy stopped me at about 5:30 a.m. in Dallas one morning. Couldn't have been more than 30 years old and seemed to be of eastern Asian descent. He was dressed decently, but looked like he hadn't shaved in a few days. He carried with him a wheeling cart and a leather shoulder bag. Said he had lost his job, couldn't pay for his apartment, and ended up on the street for a few days. He explained that he had applied for work at a temp agency and they were going to start him a day or two later, but that he had pretty much nothing at the time he stopped me.

Long story short, he didn't ask me for money, but instead for a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich so he wouldn't be looking for work on an empty stomach on a hot summer day. I was happy to do that for him. I'm pretty good at detecting dishonesty and I'm quite certain he was telling the truth. Shame that stuff like that happens.

There's a difference between a panhandler, a bum, a handicapped person on the street, a drug addict, someone who's having a hard time, and the myriad of other people who are out there begging. It's not always apparent which one is which.

My suggestion is don't be a jerk to them and if you're going to help offer food or a job. I never give money anymore since I simply can't tell the difference between them. A good panhandler will fool you every time.

This is a slightly better way to put it. You don't know who might genuinely be worthy of help.

Last month I saw a homeless guy in fatigues with a severe limp that appeared to be pretty real. He had a little bundle of stuff (no, not a stick and bindle) and a dog on a leash. As I contemplated whether he was legitimately in need, or just a natural actor trying to play the 'war veteran' card, I stopped myself and just said 'fuck it': if he's scamming people, at least he's putting forth a hell of an effort. I gave him five bucks.

He wanted $2 because he could have gotten a couple Steel Reserves if he has some change for the tax, or at least a 32oz macro-brew.

I wont give a homeless person money, but I have more than once tossed them some booze.

I'm never a jerk to people who have to stand outside of places to ask for money. I just say I don't have anything and if I do have a bit of change to spare, I always give it.

Its certainly better than being an asshole. I even bought a guy a bag of chips and a drink once, it cost me little and atleast made someone's day better.

lol srsly? The crippled dog-owning war veteran is one of the most overused bum roles there are. An obvious fake.

true stories:

a bum asked me if I had any change. I said, "Why, yes I do. Thanks for asking!". kept on walking to my destination.

My friend Case met a bum that held out a cup for change and said, "change?". Case said, "thanks!" and took a bunch of change out of the guy's cup.

Moral of these stories? Stop asking people for change.

$15/hr to do grunt work? I worked like a dog with UPS as an unloader in a hot hot hot summer and I did not get pay $15/hr. More like $10 or so a few years ago.

Are those jobs still around? Time to head up North, ehhh?

Last I year I donated something for an auction that raises money yearly at a xmas event. Over 900k was raised for a hospital here in the OC, so I don't feel bad telling some beggar I have money but wont give it to him.

Your friend is a much bigger piece of shit than any mere beggar and I hope he dies emaciated in a dark alley with AIDS and hepatitis.

to be honest, Case's life isn't all sunshine and rainbows.

He's ex-Military, living on a pension, used to be addicted to drugs and alcohol, has a criminal record, he has to go in for surgery because of gall stones and pancreatitis and in August will have to have his right foot amputated and a prosthetic installed.

In NYC, bums that ask for money aren't bums.

They're deadbeats that think they are too good to work a normal job that all the shelters offer them. They're too good to listen to basic rules that the shelters offer in exchange for a warm bed and help to move on with their lives. These people simply want to do nothing yet enjoy all the fruits that hard work gives a man.
