[Beginner] Replacement fuel pump for Scion xD

Complete car repair newbie here. 2008 Scion xD won't start. Car friend helped me diagnose it as a bad fuel pump. I'm looking for one online, and I'm kind of overwhelmed because I've never searched car parts online before.

I want to DIY so I can learn how to fix my own car.

There's an Advance Auto Parts within walking distance of my house, and they have an Aisan Fuel Pump for $228.23. Link here.

Ebay has one for $45.98 with the title "255 LPH ENGINE ELECTRIC HIGH PRESSURE GAS FUEL PUMP/INJECTION TANK EG EK EF DC2". Link here.

The pictures of the two products are similar, but not identical. Any advice?!

I'm on a tight budget, but I don't want to buy a used one because I don't want to have to do this again for a long time.

Remember one thing: You get what you pay for.
To get a good deal is one thing. buying cheap is disaster.
Usually OEM parts are better than aftermarket.

i'd go to rockauto, collect all the part numbers of the replacement pumps they list, put them one by one into ebay, and see what prices come up


one thing to factor in is how difficult the fuel pump is to replace if you have to replace the replacement ( i have no idea on a scion )

Lookup part at parts stores online. Get part number and cross reference at Rock Auto. Weigh prices and availability then make the purchase. I would never trust a part that much cheaper than the one at the parts stores. Used, rebuilt or Chinese knockoff parts can be sold online without one thing telling you that is what it is.

Rock Auto prices are often much lower than parts stores for the exact same pump, except places like Autozone may resell under some house brand like Duralast when it's made by someone else, sometimes major manufacturer and sometimes generic. Just don't buy a brand that nobody's heard of.

Edit: I checked Rock Auto and they don't seem to sell the pump separately, showing only two brands of the entire sending unit. I might be wrong in this case, about Rock Auto being significantly cheaper because they want $127 and $225, when I've gotten bare pumps there for other vehicles around $70 and entire sending units slightly over $100 that were metal instead of plastic.
