Yeah the guy sounds like an asshat.keep it cool

Yeah, I don't want to ever sound like I'm threatening him - I'm big and brown, if the cops get involves it's russian roulette. I googled him and he seems to be involved with 3 other cases with insurance companies (though it's a fairly common name), and he admitted to being involved with the auto repair industry... this is probably a nice side hustle for him. let the insurance deal with it, not worth my time or hassle.

Hire a Hitman. Give bonuses for wearing a Clown Suit and making it look like an accident.
It's NYC - you don't have to hire a hitman. Just run over the guy when he's being a pedestrian and claim you didn't see him. Few people ever get penalized for killing someone with their car.

So supposedly (I don't know the order of events, he could have parked after) my wife parked her jeep too close to some dick's car and the rubber spare tire touched his car (again, I don't know if this is true - my wife had room in front and does not recall touching another car, it's a public spot in NYC, dozens of cars swap in and out in a day). The jerk filed a police report (thankfully the report says "NO DAMAGE") and is now threatening to report it as a hit and run if i don't pay up or give my insurance info. My insurance laughed it off and told me to ignore him, now he's calling daily saying he has an "estimate" of all the damage. I found his car and took dozens of photos. there is no damage. Just ignore? Go back to the PD and waste more of their time over something so trivial?
Was this in Upper west side?????? That neighborhood is bad. I suggest you move to the Upper East Side, midtown, or to Queens.

What car did the guy own, make, model, year, and color? <---- This actually is a very important detail. The answer to this question believe it or not, means a lot.

Can you share a pic of the area where the person claims their car got hit by your wife's?

That actually is not true anymore. They have gotten a lot of security now that there are police cams, traffic cams, signal cams, speed cams, right of way crosswalk markings at almost every single intersection.

with all those cameras it seems he should be able to find John Reese and Harold Finch to help him out.

There are lots of cameras, but even with video evidence, few people are ever charged.

Can you provide proof of this claim please.

Here's another:
Yet reckless drivers are so rarely charged: Car and truck drivers killed a combined 148 pedestrians and cyclists in 2019, yet 76 — more than half! — have not been charged.

Breaking that down, only six drivers who killed cyclists were charged — a rate of roughly one in five. And only 58 percent of drivers who killed pedestrians have received so much as a summons.

Unless you count camera-moving violations (usually red light/intersection encroachment) especially for out of state commercial vehicles. Then its more like QUITE a few!

Was actually in Queens. Brand new ford explorer - dark green? "Damage" area front bumper, the rubber spare tire was pressing against his lic plate

Anyone who parks even a semi-nice car on the street in most of the city should be expecting ugly damages sooner or later.

When I drove in NYC every day one vehicle I used was a big Chevy van with huge rusty steel bars welded to the front end and a split railroad tie bolted to the back. *(sorry no "free candy" in spray paint on the side)

Normally it gave as good as it got in terms of contact-parking dings but with all that that it STILL took a few good knocks! Its a freaking war-zone for your car down there even today!

Obligatory...teach your wife to drive, There is no excuse for "the rubber spare tire touched his car."

It's city parking. bumpers exist to be bumped. It's basically a law. OP's douchebag neighbor needs to go pound sand.

Go borrow a full cement truck and run his car over with it, and then pour the cement on it.

Yep, my biggest life mistake was getting a nice mercedes wagon, street parking and awful roads destroyed it so now we street park our beater jeep and pay for private parking for our suv - to expect pristine bumpers anywhere withing a 20 mile radius of here is absurd to be honest. hell i've had mirrors ripped off, I grumble everytime but just deal

It's kind of insane that so many people in NYC have cars, let alone 2 cars. NY is leaving a lot of money on the table giving away all that free parking.

Well, the Burroughs are very poorly connected by mass transit - since both of us work in Brooklyn a car means a 25 minute commute vs an hour and a half via public transport (you have to take the subway into Manhattan then into Bk even though we're neighborsr). My wife's a teacher and gets home by 4 instead of as late as 6 when the subways melt down (which is unusually often). Paying for parking's not terrible around here, but I wouldn't be opposed to overnight metered parking for the car we street park - might make parking easier vs. the people who just don't move their cars all week. A lot of people around me also work in Long Island, which is very difficult and expensive to get into without a car. It's not a necessity but the time saved adds up.
