Keep in mind, this is a *consumer* UPS. I have one of them, and it just barely gives me twenty minutes with my MP3 server hooked up. No monitor, no printer, just server and a small switch. An APC business UPS, even at 500VA lasts almost double that.

A little aside... Those of you considering a VoIP solution may want to consider a dedicated UPS for the VoIP modem.

Just for your information.

This is info on the 800VA
TTown:

The manual states that you can plug in a computer in the USB port and another in the serial port, and have both of them monitor the UPS values.

Also the software is able to send shutdown commands to any comp on your network, so I think everything is covered.

I would also like to know the cost of the batteries and type.

When my 800VA goes on battery mode, it has a buzzing sound(similiar to a automotive battery charger), is that normal with everyone else. While, charging, it makes no sound at all.

For everyone's reference,

The 800VA can hold my dlink 8011.b wireless router, RCA cable modem, 19 inch Dell 1901FP LCD, and tower with a Athlon 1700+ over clocked to 2166 mhz at 1.85 volts (420 watt PSU) for a little more than 14 minutes and at about 35-45% load.

Its already saved me from shutdown when I turn my portable heater on(my circuit breaker blows a lot when its on)

Dont forget to use your mcdonalds bestbuy bucks hehe

I bought this last time. I just got one... again... These are really nice IMO. They work good and have a 3 year warr.

Today is the last day to get one for 50 bucks.

go for the 800 tho. For 50 bucks it's worth it.

Your Point? Besides the one at the top of your head?

You think an APC 500VA is gonna do you any better? I think NOT.... These are all cheap UPS's. Basically I got 3 computers on my 800 and it will run all 3 for about 10 mins. I just got it to do a bit of spike and brown out filtering. And the dreaded Power Bump that are really hard on computers ... Yo know power goes off for 1-3 seconds then snaps back on. OUCH.

Tell us where your going to be a "business PRO" UPS for 25 or even 50 bucks?

This is a good read if anyone is interested about how UPS's work and the diffrences between a 2K and a cheap o unit like Belkin, APC, TrippLite etc...etc..

Wow, way to be an ass.

You may not realize this, but not everyone knows there is a difference. Just common sense that it would be nice to make sure people know what they are getting. It has nothing to do with where you will find a business class UPS for *any* price. It was FYI, PSA, Community Service, being there for my fellow ATer. I'm sorry you have no concept of that.

just picked up the 800va for my file server; grabbed a separate 1500va APC for my main computer. Damn 550-watt power supply.

Wish I had had these a week ago, before a series of quick power fluctuations took out my mobo, processor and one hard drive. oy. but hot, hot deal.

the 550w powersupply has nothing to do with actual power consumption.....it has the CAPACITY to put out 550w of power.....

If you have a computer that works fine with 200w PS, and replace it with a 550w PS, the UPS run-time on a give UPS won't change noticeably. (This is assuming the PS's are built upon the same technology....aka effeciency).

My $.02

Thanks Htyei,
I ended up buying the 500VA before your post. The manual for the 500VA says "choose 1 port only" regarding the USB/Serial.
However, the software included is the same "bulldog plus" -- which can shut-down network attached computers... and that serves my purpose. (Anyone else doing the same... remember to also put your router on the UPS... hehe)

Anyone see which replacement battery either of these two 500 and 800 backups takes ? I recently replaced the battery in an APC 500 and there is an entire cottage industry making the UPC batteries cheap (clone) and available on Ebay, etc. The retail on the battery for the APC would have been more than I originally paid for the entire unit.
I can't find info on the Belkin site or the BB ad.
Thanks,

Got this thing (the 500VA model) set-up with a Pent 166 and AthlonXP-1800+ and SMC router on the UPS. Monitor is on the surge-only plug.

The s/w says I'm at 43% load and all conditions "green."

Thanks for the excellent deal.

Btw, i got a response from Belkin, saying the batteries on this model are not replaceable, bummer.

Btw, anyone having the problem of the UPS software crashing if you suspend to ram/hibernate and wake up?
