My order is delayed. I stopped by CompUSA today and found a stack of these Belkin NICs on the shelf. They are $19.99. I then saw a post at FW that said they were going to be on sale next week at CompUSA for $4.99 after rebate.

I wonder if this Dell deal is a screwup like Amazon had awhile back with the Viking memory. Viking supplied the pricing information to Amazon in a database upload and the prices were wrong. Could be that Belkin uploaded the prices for some of its network equipment that Dell sells and the prices are incorrect. Just a little speculation.

If I remember correctly, Dell has had problems with its Order Status system. I remember getting a monitor from them over the summer and the status page saying it hasn't shipped yet, even though I had already opened the box and set it up. Anyone know if Dell's system is working correctly now or not?

and so the ebay glut of Belkin 10/100 PCI network cards begins.... Looks at this one.... ebay 50 Pack of NICs I bet it doesn't get a bid...

I bought 20 but I am not going to ebay them... I bought them because I am the computer guy in with my family, freinds and coworkers.... I am always geting asked for/about hardware.... I am keeping them around as a conveinince for me really... I have already sold 3 for $5.00 a peice to someone at work.

Anyone know if the rebate is CompUSA specific or date purchased specific? If it's not.....we can claim the rebate and make 14.19 per NIC....now that would make this deal even more sweet.

I'm really happy that people are getting their NICs...I got mine also.

Being new to networking, I have a question. Which NIC is better, the one we got in this deal (Belkin) or the ones that were free after rebate last week at Best Buy (D-Link). I've got both now and don't know which to use.

I'd say these NICs are all about the same...but did you expect anything more for $1?

The Intel Pro 10/100 are the best I've seen yet...

At this point its more a matter of whether or not you consider the brand reliable.
Its very hard to find an outright *bad* network card anymore. My suggestion would be to just close your eyes, reach out, and grab whichever one you touch first.

All this talk of "grey" purchases is NONSENSE.

A vendor prices his merchandise and OFFERS it for sale, whether it is a .com or B&M.

A customer ACCEPTS THE OFFER & pays the price asked, and now a CONTRACT exists between the parties.

If the customer agrees to pay $20 for an item worth $5... tough rocks for the customer. This happens EVERY SINGLE DAY.

If the vendor advertises (agrees to sell) an item for $5 when it is really worth $20, tough rocks for the vendor.

It is NOT WRONG for a customer to agree to buy an item at the price asked by the vendor.

Actually BigDoggie is right.

No one notices that Belkin is closing this division and as a result will show the cost of them items as 0.00 (i.e. loss) in their books. However since Dell picked up the entire lot from Belkin for say 5 cents a piece, then they make a profit of .95 - .05 = .90 on one of these cards. Since Dell will be selling thousands of these, end of the day, Dell would have made a huge profit (even after bearing the shipping costs).

I have been tracking sale of electronic equipment for quite some time and what I figured out was that a company makes profit (recovers everything invested + profit on top of that) from a product during its 4 to 8 month life cycle after introduction (geeks will throw in extra cash to get that "new" piece of hardware). So when the product is phased out, the manufacturer and the stores (both .com & B&M) would have already recoved all costs and made profit on it. Anything extra is just icing on the cake....

My personal belief is that nothing is free in this place.... either you have already paid for it.... or will be paying for it.....

I know that the D-Link's use the Realtek chip, but what chip does the Belkin use?

Belkin uses the Realtek chipset also.....I saw this card rated a 9.5 on a review....higher than they rated the Intel Pro chipset.

Just got my order confirmation for these and my Altecs!!!
I even called because I received two confirmations for the price of my order were lower than what I was quoted and it was because they split the order into two parts (one with NICs + tool kit, the other with Altecs) and the dude confirmed both orders!

<seriously can you read and comprehend what is written, or do you people just regurgitate the same tired lines that were poured into <your heads when you were 5? Have you ever evaluated one of your beliefs? or are you happy making the same statements over and <over again like some kind of robot?

sheesh. what dramatism for such a meaningless squibble. Do you put that much thought into your manipulative lectures on other things too? Beleive me, while it would be annoying if someone botched it all for ordering 10000 or something... I think that you have to admit it's not illegal, or even wrong, since it's Dell that's offering them at that price. Now, it may not be in the spirit of the forum, but I don't recall any post by the Mod saying exactly what the spirit of the forum is, so far HOt deals are for ANYBODY to try, and that includes entrepreneurs. (however that's spelled, sheesh you guys and your spelling).

So, mine were supposed to ship the 14th. and the order disappeared from the web page update for my account at dell.com.. however, when I called and checked on the status of the order, it did say they were released to the manufacturing dept... so maybe.

...But as a customer I can return the over priced items if I find out I paid to much for a refund
