My co-worker started claiming that Peterson debated some atheist and destroyed him with simple "you can't disprove God" argument when I'm guessing it just turned into a "well you say its not god but other people do, you can't tell them it isn't without being them!" or "every culture makes up god to believe in" type of shit.

For "unity" does not necessarily require actual, consensual persuasion. Coercion and threat deprivation can also achieve conformity. When something is mutually exclusive, something must give, and if compromise cannot be reached, then escalation is the next step. Being better at PR is not exactly going guarantee unity. In addition, the President is actually very far away from directly influencing people's lives. The local municipality is what deals with local matters of all kinds.
With that said, the usual share of "emotional confirmations" towards his base also come out in drives, "we will continue reporting the facts". Yeah, not exactly the facts. Nor are "conservatives" always right.
