what is the main benchmark that everyone uses?

What are you looking to test for?
There aren't too many realistic benchmarks for games besides actual games themselves. Unreal Tournament, Quake3, various benchmarks for each platform. Other benchmarks are highly dependent on system configuration and also what is running in the background. They are useful for determining if tweaks worked and how well they worked (like Sandra and 3D Mark 2000), but most synthetic benchmarks mean nothing when compared to systems that aren't almost exactly the same.

i use sandra for my cpu,memory,hdrive,and cdrom benchmarks

I use Sandra and 3DMark2000. Many will tell you that 3DMark2000 is a waste, but I have always liked it. Here is a link to get 3DMark2000Madonion.com

Also, you will want to check that you are getting good frame rates in your favorite games at the settings you want.

None are "completely accurate, but Sandra & 3D Mark seem to be used more than others.....!

i wonder why durons perform better on sandras memory benchmark then thunderbirds?

i have seen a few reviews where a duron@1000 mhz outperforms a tbird@1000 mhz on sandras alu and fpu memory test.

tbird 1000mhz 133 fsb:
alu = 497
fpu = 538


duron 1000mhz 133 fsb:
alu = 499
fpu = 556

same memory, same mainboard etc.

using ct´s memory test (ftp://ftp.heise.de/pub/ct/ctsi/ctcm17a.zip) the tbirds scores in all fields (exept MOVSD L2 dirty) higher then the duron.

Hey FrEstYle29 how do you like your system? I was just about to post the same question. I've just put togther my first system, similiar to yours.

How can you test for stability? So far I'm running fine but I haven't really pushed the system yet.
