Benchmarking on 64 bit system

I've just upgraded to a 64 bit system and started doing some benchmarking on the default settings. I have the same 9800 pro video card, but the ram, mobo, and processor are all new. I was running the card on a athlon 2600+ system with 167Mhz FSB and 1GB dual channel DDR 333 ram. I am now running a athlon64 3200 winchester core with 1GB dual channel ddr 400 ram and I acually see a significant decrease in my 3dmarks scores when compared to my previous ssystem running at stock speeds. I have the newest ati driver and bios and system drivers, but I just cannot see how I am actually taking a performance hit with the new mobo/ram/processor. Any ideas on why the scores are lower?

Are you overclocking the 64bit cpu? Have you froced your ram timmings on the new ram, whats the old ram and new ram? THere is a chance you are overclocking your 64bit without realising that its slitgly differnt from overclocking a athlon and that there is a HTT mulitplier now that if not set right according with yoru FSB will cause a lack of effeciancy or unstabability. Please give a full detail of your system, make type and all.

Old system:

- MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR mobo with FSB at 167MHZ
- Athlon 2600+
- 1GB Corsair Twinx DDR400 RAM running in dual channel at 167MHz
- 2 IBM/Hitachi 80GB SATA drives in RAID Stripe
- Audigy2
- HIS Radeon 9800 PRO with 128MB RAM

New System:

- MSI K8N Neo2 Platnum with bios 1.4
- Athlon64 3200 Winchester
- 1GB Corsair Twinx DDR400 RAM running in Dual channel at 200MHZ
- 2 IBM/Hitachi 80GB SATA drives in Raid Stripe
- Audigy2
- HIS Radeon 9800 PRO with 128MB Ram

Stats from CPU-Z

Clocks:
Core Speed - 1004.6MHz
Multiplier - x5.0
HTT - 200.9MHz

L2 Cache Frequency 1004.6MHz

Memory - 1024 MB in Dual Channel
Frequency - 200.9MHz
FSBRAM - CPU/5.0
3-3-3-8

All timings/speeds are at the auto set/default settings from the mobo.

My old scores on 3dMarks01 were as high as 15569 when overclocking the FSB to 180MHZ The base score with default settings was 15016. On 3dMarks03 the base score was 5525 and the OC'ed score was 5765.

Currently with two runs on the new system, I have gotten 5385 and 5449 on 3dMarks03 and 12559 and 12750 on 3dMarks01.

Have you changed anything in th ebios, like ram timmmings, HTT, voltages, agressive timmings, dynamics overclocking, anything?? If so what are they.

Make sure ALL your drivers are up to date. Go directly to the chip manufactures web site and download the latest drivers. If you have an Nforce Mother board Download the latest drivers from Nvidia.

Did you format and do a clean install of windows after you installed the new MB and CPU? Going from different chipsets without a clean install can give you serious performance hits. I experienced as much when moving from a VIA chipset to an intel chipset on my old PIII.

when using raided sata hdd's you can only do clean installs of windows

Also, everying is currently at its default setting with respect to timings, clock settings, I haven't changed any of them in bios, nor have I done any dynamic overclocking. I want to test this at its base settings so I can get an idea of what performance increases I can get over the stock values

Your CPU mulitplier shoudl be at 9 for the 64bit. Also for most effeciancy you need a number of 1200-1800. This number is found by your FSB (200 default) x 2 =400 then times that by yout HTT multiplyer ie 5 on yours = 2000. Put your HTT mulitplier down to 4 which will giv eyou 1600.

Try that. its not over clockingn your cpu but is trying to make it more effeciant.

Also, what sata ports do you have it in, 1 and 2 do not have locks on them 3 and 4 do, so they are safer.

Let me know..

Ok, thanks for the help John. The core is now running at 1810 with those changes and my scores have improved greatly. I tested at 18110, which was a gain of 2000+ on 3dmarks01 over my old system and about 600 on my 3dmarks03 to a little above 6000.

CPU temps are reasonable, about 10 degrees above ambient. The only thing I'm curious about is now that I'm running at full speed, my 12V line seems to be dropping a bit to 11.67V. I wouldn't have even noticed, but my LCD temp display on the front of my case switched off when I've been benchmarking. I know they recommend at least 22A on the 12V line and mine is only 18, so has anyone else had underpowering issues like this? Or is my lcd monitor just going out? Let me know if you guys have any ideas.

Glad I could help out man. WIth your LCD, im not to sure, i dotn have the luxury of being able to play with one so I havnt been able to learn to much about them. DO you have any other power supplies around or maybe a freind with a comptuer were you can just borrow his PS to test in your machine to see if it makes a differnece. From that you will ebabel to find out if its a Power issue or if its a LCD issue.

Good luck man.
