yep and thats what they got. I was hoping for the Argentinian guy, but hey I'm not even Catholic

They choose an old one because a young pope lasts too long, and has too much chance to change the church. JP2 modeled the church after his own vision, they need a breather.

"The Inquisition, what a show.."
This is another sad day for the catholic church. A possible place for them to move forward into the 21st century and they look back to the 19th..

Are you Catholic? No? Then why do you care? Same goes for everyone who denounces the Church. I have my own theories for why you care, but I'd like to hear it from you first.

You aren't German, why do you care if Hitler takes control of parliament?

not really
http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/hitler_youth.htm
After Hitler came to power, all other youth movements were abolished and as a result the Hitler Youth grew quickly. In 1936, the figure stood at 4 million members. In 1936, it became all but compulsory to join the Hitler Youth. Youths could avoid doing any active service if they paid their subscription but this became all but impossible after 1939.

An apologist to the bitter end. I knew I could count on you to level the first personal attacks.

A good Pope for the left would be one that would endorse abortion, and throw out all traditional teachings like marriage between a man and a woman, etc.. Its absurd that the left on this forum acts like they have a CHOICE in who is the Pope. You decry there is no god, religion is a waste, then complain when someone else decides who they want for THEIR religious leader.. If you don't like the choice, DON'T BE A CATHOLIC.

Maybe you can answer my simple question rather than trying to claim a personal attack where none exists. Nothing I said could possibly even be construed as a personal attack.

I was raised Catholic and although I'm not practicing, even I recognize that this guy is dangerous to the Church. Are you Catholic?

Don't catholics have a right to choose their leaders? Are you going to answer the question or just spew your bigotry? Why does it matter to you as a Non-Catholic? Or a NON PRACTICING Catholic?

Nate

I wouldn't be surprised if it's that nazi boy ratzinger

That's probably one of the most appealing qualities of him. The rise of Nazi-like followers is exploding all over Europe. This may recruit Europeans back into the church.

Not that I'm saying he is a Nazi or anything, but some people view him as a former one.

They wanted a caretaker Pope.

All I'm asking for is a Pope that:

A) Supports contraceptives as AIDS eliminates massive parts of the world.
B) Supports women's rights in the church.
C) Removes child molesters from the Church.

Is that too much to ask? Apparently, with this choice, yes.

Well, I've been baptized, communionzed and the whole bit. Although I don't go to church anymore, I'm more Catholic than probably you are. (Don't know if you're Catholic or not as of yet)

I'm not Catholic and I think it's a pretty good choice.

The Pope is supposed to uphold the religious convictions and the traditions of his Church. I know the media would like to see him reform it with gay priests and pro-abortion and what not, but that is not what the job is for.

This guy seems to have a good track record upholding the ideals of his faith in the past, so therefore he seems like a good choice.
