Benefits of CSA LAN?

Edit: rephrasing my question. I'm just curious of the benefits of CSA. I know it moves the LAN from the southbridge to the north, and thus increases efficiency. What tangible benefits does this give?

SBC called yesterday trying to convince me to get DSL, I said I already have 3 megabit cable, they said their DSL is 1.5 gigabit. I said, "My hard drives can't right that fast, sorry."

Most IDE drives peak at 45-50mpbs second. Do your math.

What? First off, what is an mpb?

Most IDE drives right at 35 megabytes per second... Mine right at like 64 or something (raid 0)... and 1000 megabits per second is... a lot more than that. Like 400 megabytes per second.

Do your math... and unit labeling.

CSA moves the network card traffic off the PCI bus. Gigabit ethernet runs faster than the PCI bus (I think) so Intel developed a proprietary bus to ease the strain on the PCI bus.

It has a direct dedicated Gigabit FDX interface to the Northbridge that provides 2000Mbps of bandwidth, which is actually almost twice as fast as the entire PCI bus! This design eliminates the PCI Bus bottleneck that was created by using the more traditional Southbridge method. In theory it performs better because of this and Anand proved this by showing that it provided an additional 568Mbps of network bandwidth, over a Gigabit network though! Anand also stated in that article that the CSA Bus (or Communications Streaming Architecture) is basically the same as Intel's HubLink 2.0 bus used for North and South bridge communication. However, if you are using a more standard 100Mbps network I dont know how this would affect your network performance.

Good luck!
