i have had a soft water filtration system in my house for years, but recently have been hearing that drinking "soft" water is worse than drinking "hard" water. supposedly the good minerals that are in water is filtered out taking away a lot of the benefits of water. i've been trying to find data or any research done on this, but have come up unsuccessful. does anyone know or can find the benefits of drinking hard/soft water. i'm not curious about the usage of the water, just the drinking aspect. thanks in advance.

Other than the fact that soft water tastes horrible, I have no information for you.

Soft water switches the minerals that make water "hard" with sodium. If you are on a low sodium diet that might be bad.

Possibly, but if you take vitamins it shouldn't matter.

If you are worried about it run a bypass valve with an RO system or other filtration system.

I work at sears and sell softeners and other filtration systems and haven't heard of any research or conclusive proof that drinking soft water is not as good for you.

And the only thing that should affect drinking soft water is if you are very sensitive to sodium, when in that case you can use potassium chloride instead.

I'd rather have my drinking water be pure than mineralized. In any case, soft water is more conducive to soap lather for washing needs, n'est ce pas?

It also doesn't leave your skin as dry as hard water.

I don't like the feeling that I still have soap all over my body when I get out of the shower.

Even with soft water, some soaps will do that which is one of the reasons I prefer vegetable based glycerin soap. Using typical white bars makes me feel unclean... kinda greazy.
