Benq 1620 Burn Speeds So Slow

I am running DVD burners on two different machines, one is a NEC 8X and the one on the system below is the Benq 1620. It is rated as a 16X, and I use the same media on both, but the NEC consistently burns faster. I have downloaded the Benq firmware checker, and it appears that I have the most up-to-date firmware available.

I burn 200 or so discs a month, mostly Ridata 16X, occasionally Verbatim, but the speeds are always the same.

Any suggestions?

It probably has to do with the systems the units are installed in. So to find out for sure, switch the drive units on the systems and test again. If the NEC still comes out faster, then the other optical drive is just not up to par. I always love NEX or Pioneer when it comes to DVD-R's.

I'd say something's wrong.

I had the DW1620 for a while, & it was my favorite burner i've owned thus far.

Very fast & not as loud as the newer DW1640+ series.

The extras are coming from the SATA ports.

Also defrag your hard drive while you're at it. Makes a difference to my writing speeds.
