Benq DW1655

The retail box shows a beige as well as a black face plate. Looking around online, newegg.com and others only seem to have it in black.

Any ideas on how to get the beige drive or a beige faceplate?

BTW, if you have this drive what firmware are you using?

Apparently there is such an animal out there but I can't find one. More companies are including at least blk and bge plates and some silver as well - you may need to call Benq cust service to find out if it's in the box. Though Newegg's pix are usually accurate as to what's in the retail box. Maybe they could tell you where to find one.

Is there a reason that you didn't install the latest version? Is it not as good?

I believe BCHB is the latest version floating around but it has not been officially posted on the BenQ DW1655 support page.

I have heard bad things about BCHB and so I have avoided it for now.

there was an email address that I emailed a request for a black facpeplate which came in 2-3 weeks, I',m still digging it up.

Edit: Well my 1655 was bought as an I/O Magic which I than flashed with the BCBD firmware to make it a real benq recognisable by the benq suite and I send an email to
faceplate@iomagic.com and telling them to send me one. heres the template I used

Dear I/O Magic Customer Support,

I purchased an I/O Magic 16x Internal DVD ReWritable Drive with LightScribe (IDVD16DLS) at <Store Name> on MM/DD/YYYY. I opened the box today, and found that the black faceplate was not included -- the drive only came with the beige faceplate preinstalled. As my computer system is consistent with black tone, I would like to request a black faceplate from you with the following information:

DVD Drive Model Info:
IDVD16DLS (Drive Label: BenQ DW1655, Nov. 2005 Made in China)

To request: a black faceplate for the above DVD drive model.
