AU Optronics P-MVA actually. 8-bit and high contrast. I don't think they're using A-MVA (8 cell domains like Samsung S-PVA) panels yet. So with a 4 domain TFT like that I don't see how it could be better image quality wise than the Samsung 8 domain in the 2407. The main advantage of having the extra four domains is extended viewing angle and higher contrast. Couple that with AUO's typically poor gamma settings and you wonder how much trust you can put into that review. Maybe they only paid attention to the calibrated settings (but what average user has a calibrator these days?) We'll see...

ah cool. i wonder which panel my al2416wd has then. could be the same one, could not be. it has different contrast ratio specs than the 2407 so i think it might be the same one. au optronics is also a division of acer.

Dell 2407WFP (*) (widescreen) has a 24 inch 6 ms (g2g) S-PVA (Samsung LTM240M2 eller LTM240L2) panel.

BenQ FP241W (widescreen) has a 24 inch 8 ms (g2g) S-PVA (Samsung LTM240M2) panel.

Not sure if anyone will care or not, but that's what i found from a quick search of flatpanels.dk.

Oh, but is it glossy? ;p

Also pray thee tell, what makes this monitor supposedly so great?

Thanks in advance

I've heard that BenQ panels are iffy when it comes to image quality. Maybe this one will break the mold though.

Actually the 241W uses the AU Optronics P-MVA (M240UW01 V0) at least according to http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/benq_fp241w.htm and the widescreengaming forum. The monitor is not glossy according to all current reports. So far two people over at the HardOCP forums have confirmed it is in transit to them and will report when it arrives.

The tftcentral review of the specs goes into what BFI does and why it might be helpful. Personally it sounds like it will be good for movies but you'll likely turn it off for FPS gaming.

As far as what is good is the fact that it uses a different panel then the Dell 2407 and so there is hope that it will be better for gaming. AU Optronics is a subsidy of BenQ so it makes more sense that BenQ would use that panel then a panel from rival Samsung.

BFI is Black Frame Insertion, which means the monitor will scan the screen with black bars to help wipe your eyes of image blur. With the FP241WZ on the horizon, I wouldn't get the FP241W now.

Take a look over at hardforums in the display section.

Theres a thread about it, with pics and a review there of someone who just got one from newegg.

Apparently this display streches external sources (component, s-video, composite) to fill the screen, i.e. it doesn't preserve the aspect ratio of the signal. (No word on HDMI yet...)

I find this troubling since the display is clearly marketed as more than just a PC monitor (else why all the inputs?). I suppose we'll know more by the end of next week. If this is indeed the case perhaps BenQ can address this with the "Z" release.
