BenQ FP767T for $339 after $30 MIR at TigerDirect. I believe the rebate comes from BenQ not Tiger - not sure about that. (shipping for me in the NYC area UPS ground is $16)

This is the famous AU Optronics 17" 16ms LCD panel used in the Hitachi CML174 and any other 16ms 17" LCD screen you see. Its a fantastic screen. Tigerdirect is not my favorite vendor by any means but they have never screwed me and this is a better price point by about $30-60 then anywhere else I have seen.

I have one major complaint though with this monitor. Its an analog connector not DVI. Not even DVI-A. That kinda blows. If I were to get such a nice LCD I would want DVI-D. Still, for the price I think I may pick one up for a secondary monitor. I'd also like one in black since my desk is black mica and my other monitors are black as are my Elite keyboards. I also like black monitors because the Black gives a nice contrast to the screen edge giving the appearance of better screen brightness. In a sunny space like my computer studio, it makes a difference as black absorbs the light better.

edit: The have the black version but $20 more.... :disgust:

anyways here's the specs. Its a warm deal but the best I have found for the 17" 16ms LCD. BenQ does have a really cool 3 year warranty policy. They will courier you a refurb monitor within 48 hours of your confirmed RMA.

yea I'm not really happy about that but for my needs it's ok as I need it for a secondary monitor. My primary monitors are always CRT's. I figure for $339, thats the price I would pay for a higher quality 19" CRT anyways. I need to take some weight off that poor desk and I would be nice to not have it so far away from the wall cuz of large CRT's

still, even if it's not DVI, most DVI at that low of a price is DVI-A and the difference in quality of DVI-A and standard VGA (DB-15) is negligable. It's DVI-D that makes a difference. The high quality of this LCD panel makes much more of a difference then a lesser grade panel with a digital connector so I'm not gonna cry about it.

Looks like a great price, although like many other people said, Tigerdirect has a less than stellar reputation. The BenQ FP767T uses the same exact panel as the NEC1760, Planar LX171, or any other 16ms 17" LCD out there.

I just ordered this. I need to replace a CRT and want less space taken up. I cannot find this AUO 16ms panel for this low of a price anywhere else. I will recieve it next week. I ordered the Black one too. I'll let you know how it is but I already know this monitor or the panel at least. Out of about 6-8 17" LCD panels I have used, this is by far the best panel. The clarity, color, brightness, and response times are just awesome. I wanted to get this when Hitachi first put it out for about $650-700. It's only been several months and now I got one for half that price.

I own this monitor. It's great. I haven't mounted it to the wall, but I really like that feature and the built-in speakers. Handy for LAN parties that won't let you bring your 2.1 or 5.1 speaker set.

Yes you can but it will not help your picture quailty at all. There are 3 main forms of DVI. DVI-A, DVI-D, and DVI-I. There are others but none you need to worry about really. The A is for analog and the D is for digital. I is for integrated which allows either DVI-A mode or DVI-D mode. When a VGA signal goes from your computer, the digital signal either gets converted to an analog signal for a VGA connector (DB-15) or analog with DVI-A. VGA just uses your standard VGA connector and DVI just uses the DVI connector to transmit an analog signal. Then when it hits your LCD it becomes Digital again to display the LCD image (CRT's are analog so that stays analog). With DVI-D your signal goes from digital to the connector and stays digital to the monitor.

So a analog connector signal looks like this:
Digital (video card) -> Analog (DVI-A or VGA) -> Digital (LCD)
A digital connector signal looks like this:
Digital (video card) -> Digital (DVI-D) -> Digital (LCD)

The analog signal is not as good as a digital signal. DVI-A is also slightly better then VGA but not usually too noticeable for most people. The signal conversion from digital to analog to digital causes slight distortions and possible noise, but usually nothing that drastic. While its better to have a pure digital connector and signal, having an analog VGA signal usually won't make or break an LCD to most people. Depends on how fussy you are and what you're doing. As for using a converter. You should only use it if you need to use the DVI connector on your video card because your VGA is taken up by another monitor (You want to run dual). Otherwise I'd advise against using an extra adapter if you don't need one. Most cases they don't help your video signal, usually make it worse though it should be that noticeable on a good quality adapter. The less you add to a mix, the better.

edit: typos... i swear i get more typos on the Logitech Elite keyboard

Update: Mine came in last night. I forgot how amazing this LCD panel was. Next to my very good quality NEC FE950+ and FE955+, it kinda puts the CRT's to shame! LCD's almost always have better color saturation then CRT's but I am shocked of how bright and contrasty this LCD is. Even in a bright sunny room, the contrast was amazing. My biggest problem with my computers being in a VERY sunny space (5 large skylights) is that the screens look very grey in the bright daylight. This LCD looks downright amazing. Very clear image, good autodetection system which calibrates and sets the resolution. I went from my mac to PC and back to my Mac with no issues. and instant automatic OSD calibration that set the color, balance, and geometry perfect. I ran some graphics apps on them and all went well. I also ran Star Wars Galaxies and Medal of Honor for testing. I see no evidence of ghosting at all on this 16ms screen. I tried hard to make it ghost in high contrast high fps situations... no ghosting, it was clear as day.

I am extremely happy with this purchase. I am going to order another and 2 friends that saw it are ordering as well. This is also been another zero problem purchase with tigerdirect. I was well notified and delivery came faster then expected. I know TigerDirect is not perfect, usually regarding problematic returns, but I have never had a problem ordering from them on over 6 different purchases in 2 years.

Do you not understand that you are being their advocate right now? Your quoted statement and mere posting of anything positive equates to being an advocate (IMHO.)

you need a life man... really I can't believe you'd be so trivial as to even post that.

anyways to people actually interested in this monitor, the rebate must be mailed within 14 days of purchase date it says. So no procrastinating when you get the package. Seems a bit shady IMO cuz what if your shipment gets delayed. Usually rebates are such and such day of ship date. well whatever I got my rebate sent within that time frame but just a word of caution to you prospective buyers.

I just ordered one. A friend of mine has used this company without issues....hopefully I'll do the same. Looks like a nice monitor at a bargain price....I'll update again once I get it.

BTW, the black model is $339 AR too.

Hey, it looked like you needed a lil dictionary help thats all.
I dont understand why TD posts are allowed @ all after that big stink with them last year (and before if you look @ BBB website on them.)[/quote]

My spelin iss nOtt su goode ether. Thats not what this post is about though

So whats the big stink about TD last year? I am ignorant to that. I just dont like TD for other reasons but not because they have screwed me or anything. Something just doesn't smell right with them, like that 14 day rebate policy, or certain conditions of a sale or whatever. My orders from them feel shaky unlike when I order from newegg which I would trust with my first born

I am not gonna use the word advocate again but lets say I do not try to intentionally support TD, I support what seems to me like a good deal. A deal in this case which happens to be through TigerDirect. If I could have paid $10-20 more for it at newegg or Mwave, I would have, but I can't. Its the best price I have seen anywhere, I didnt choose where that price came from. Do I make sense now?

Received this monitor yesterday; paid extra for second day air and it was here right on time. I think the picture quality is excellent...no ghosting, no dead pixels and no problems ordering from TD. I'm very happy with this monitor so far and for $339 I think it's a great bargain....

Just thought I'd toss my 2 cents in
